Basketball Play - Ohio State Horns-Flex

Ohio State Horns-Flex

Andrew Greer 03/19/2015

Ohio State ran this modified flex vs. VCU after setting it up with multiple possessions of their basic horns set. After using misdirection, the VCU defender is expecting a second misdirection screen but the 1 only uses one ball screen taking him to the wing. The help side defenders are also anticipating a guard attack or post dive to the paint. This action allows the ball handler and the cutter (flex) the entire side of the floor to work with. During this particular set the flex cut was covered and the ball was sent to the 2 coming off of a stagger screen. See More

Basketball Play - Ohio State Horns Basic

Ohio State Horns Basic

Andrew Greer 03/19/2015

Ohio State Horns Basic. The Buckeyes used this set early in Round 2 action vs. VCU. This simple horns action served as an entry in to more complex horns sets. The buckeyes scored multiple ways out of this in the 1st half. Easy looks for them included a 15 ft. pull up jump shot and an easy dump down to the roll man to avoid aggressive ball screen defense from the Rams. See More

Today's Play of the Day is from Tom Thibodeu and the Chicago Bulls, a set they've run for Nikola Mirotic. Chicago has employed two true big man lineups during the Thibodeau era, so having a shooting big man like Mirotic is something new for the team. As such, Thibodeau's playbook has expanded, and now features some nice sets for a shooting big man. See More

Basketball Play - Bill Self Kansas University Set Play: 1 Drive or Kick

Bill Self Kansas University Set Play: 1 Drive or Kick

Scott Peterman 02/28/2015

Kansas coach Bill Self has a simple formula for evaluating his team’s three-point shooting numbers: Thirty percent from three equals good offense. The 30 percent isn't the percentage of made baskets, but it's the percentage of shots taken from the arc. If 30 percent of KU’s shots are coming from behind the arc, that’s a number that Self can live with. Coach Bill Self believes in playing inside then out. Coach Bill Self doesn't believe in launching from deep even if he is having trouble finding consistent post scoring this season. This basketball play takes advantage of his guards getting to the basket and finding the post on the roll. This season, the Jayhawks are hitting 39.6 percent from three-point range, which ranks 19th in the country. But after 22 games, the Jayhawks have taken just 29.4 percent of their shots from behind the three-point line. That ranks 289th in the country and is just slightly more than last season (28.6 percent). In conference play, the number has increased only marginally, to 29.9 percent, which aligns close to the 30 percent mark that Bill Self feels comfortable with. Philosophies on outside shooting vary from team to team, and coach to coach. No. 1 Kentucky, for example, takes three-pointers on 30 percent of its field-goal attempts, while Wisconsin, the nation’s most efficient offense, hoists threes on 36 percent of its shots.
