Basketball Play - Ball Screen Stagger Veer

Ball Screen Stagger Veer

Matt Hackenberg 01/29/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play looking to use a ball screen veer for either a three-point shot, or a slip off the stagger. It's important to read both, and let the defense decide which action you will pursue. Basketball Play - Box Swing Stagger

Box Swing Stagger

Matt Hackenberg 01/26/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for an option for a three-point shot. I like the movement without this set to keep the defense busy. The only player that doesn't really move is 3. 2 wants to make a great cut off the stagger, setting it up with a great change of pace and change of direction. Of course, the screeners can look to slip if the opening is there. Video below. Basketball Play - Flat Back Dive BLOB

Flat Back Dive BLOB

Matt Hackenberg 01/18/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a BLOB play. I like that in this play the 2 players rising create more space to find openings for the back screen action. With less defenders in the equation, defensive slips can be magnified. If the rise players are not respected, there is an easy and safe inbound to them. Basketball Play - Horns: Push Gate Series

Horns: Push Gate Series

Matt Hackenberg 12/22/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play series out of a horns alignment. The dribble push enters the set. The first two options are slipping the gate screen, and turning the corner on the dribble push for a clear out. The next option is using the gate screen, which goes into a pin or flare option, similar to a blocker/mover action. Video below. Basketball Play - Miami Heat - Hammer Lay Up

Miami Heat - Hammer Lay Up

Tony Miller 12/18/2021

Watch the video below as Coach Tony Miller uses FastDraw, the #1 play diagramming program for basketball coaches, to break down this ATO design from the Miami Heat under head coach Erik Spoelstra. Help side defenders can’t not get caught watching the ball as the double step up ball screen occurs on the strong side, leaving 2 a chance to slip to the rim. Send to FastDraw using the button above. Basketball Play - Gate Back Cut SLOB

Gate Back Cut SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/15/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a back cut on the gate screen action. I think this action is best paired in series with using the gate screen, using the gate screen and then slipping a screener, and some option after entering to the corner. So if I didn't have a gate screen series installed, I would think about this as a play to draw up in a timeout, or a rare special sitatution SLOB you don't use very often at all. Video clip below. Basketball Play - 5 Out DHO Stagger

5 Out DHO Stagger

Matt Hackenberg 12/14/2021

Out of our 5 Out alignment we used a set to to bring our 1 off of a double stagger screen. We reverse the ball to our 4, dribble hand off to the 2, and stagger screen on the back side. Developing slipping options out of the stagger would make this set even tougher to guard. Basketball Play - 1-3-1 Zone Offense: Low Back Screen Continuity - "Bear"

1-3-1 Zone Offense: Low Back Screen Continuity - "Bear"

Matt Hackenberg 12/10/2021

This offense was implemented to help incorporate constant screening and cutting into a continuity offense. There are options to score on cuts, post ups, down screening and slips. We've found wrinkles and set plays from within the base offense that have been effective. Basketball Play - 1-2-2 Flex Offense Entry

1-2-2 Flex Offense Entry

Matt Hackenberg 12/07/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we are looking at an entry into the flex offense. This is a methodical continuity set, aimed at getting the defense to slip up on defending screens off the ball. I like all the cutting, screening and movement. I think it limits penetration opportunities to a certain extent, and makes your players a bit robotic running the pattern. But time has proven, the flex offense can be very effective, especially at the high school level. Miami Heat - Elevator Game Winner SLOB

Tony Miller 11/19/2021

Watch the video below as Coach Tony Miller uses FastDraw, the #1 play diagramming program for basketball coaches, to break down this sideline set from the NBA’s Miami Heat. Great design if you have two good shooters; one can be a decoy to set up the twist and elevator screen. There is also high potential for a screener slipping to the rim if their defender shows on the shooter. Send to your FastDraw library using the button above. Basketball Play - Miami Heat - Flat Ram Exit

Miami Heat - Flat Ram Exit

Dave Nedbalek 10/19/2021

This is a simple exit set utilizing a 1-4 low alignment. The clip included shows the set as designed but there are several other components I like about this set as well. With Morris (ideally Adebayo would be here) sprinting up off Herro's brush screen into a simple touch and out middle ball screen there is a component of rim pressure being applied here as well. The Heat do not, but I would lift our weakside guard (Strus) to occupy the tag and place him in a long closeout. You also have the slip, or post feed after the pinscreen for the shooter coming out. I like this set and it's versatility to create a high quality look with space. See More

Chicago Sky - Pistol Flare Early Offense

Tony Miller 09/01/2021

Watch the video below as Coach Tony Miller uses FastDraw, the #1 play diagramming program for basketball coaches, to break down this set from the WNBA’s Chicago Sky. Flare screens are always tough to guard, and this set incorporates two with tons of spacing. As a sneaky option, look for 5 slipping to the rim. Send this play to your FastDraw via the button above.
