Basketball Play - Euro Ball Screen into Low Cross Screen (Set Play)

Euro Ball Screen into Low Cross Screen (Set Play)

Matt Hackenberg 12/09/2021

Here we look at a set play that evolves directly from the Euro Ball Screen Offense, designed to get a forward cutting to the basket for an interior touch. I love set plays that originate out of a team's main offense, effectively masking the action to make it harder for the defense to prepare for. Basketball Play - Euro Ball Screen Offense ("Wave")

Euro Ball Screen Offense ("Wave")

Matt Hackenberg 12/09/2021

In 2014, the team I was coaching lost in the Ohio High School State Finals to a GREAT defensive team. We ran our entire offensive package (dribble drive, sets, high ball screens, etc.) at them and could not get any good looks. The feeling from that game led me on a search to find a great continuity offense that included screening, ball reversals and the option to use it for interior shots or perimeter shots. The search culminated in finding the 5-Out Euro Ball Screen Offense from watching the Olympics. We took the basics of the offense, added some bells and whistles, and made it something that could accomplish all we were looking for in an offense. We incorporated sets out of the flow of the offense, motion numbered cutting principles and various entries to spice things up. We put all that information into 45 extremely detailed pages of a PDF file on this offense and all the teaching points involved in making it your offense. To purchase the PDF, click here: https://sellfy.com/p/8JOh/ Aquinas' main man-to-man offense from the 2014-15 season was continuity ball screen attack we called "Wave." It was our first year running it as our main offense but used it as a set play the previous season. We were able to use a lot of different features within the offense to attack our opponents and many of those features are outlined in this video. Depending on the strengths of the players, the offense can be more tailored for the perimeter or the interior. We used multiple entries including several not shown on the video and numbered cut system so the players could communicate which screens and cuts they were about to make. Basketball Play - Euro Ball Screen (2-3 Zone Quick Hitter)

Euro Ball Screen (2-3 Zone Quick Hitter)

Matt Hackenberg 12/10/2021

Skip to 6:30 mark of the embedded video below. The diagrams and video show how using the Euro Ball Screen Offense against 1-3 zone functions. We ran this as a set every year we had the Euro Ball Screen Offense installed and it worked very well 2-3 times per game against zone. After that, the defense tended to figure it out. Basketball Play - High Ball Screen Continuity Offense: "Flow"

High Ball Screen Continuity Offense: "Flow"

Matt Hackenberg 12/10/2021

This is a breakdown of an offense we call "Flow." Flow is three guard, two forward offense that is a hybrid of a ball screen offense and dribble drive concepts. It has options to attack driving gaps and play pick and roll. I really think the roll and replace concept is hard to guard, and we often found the replacing big wide open at the top of the key. Obviously, playmaking guards are a centerpiece to this concept. Basketball Play - "21" High Ball Screen Attack

"21" High Ball Screen Attack

Matt Hackenberg 12/14/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a simple ball screen concept. We used this when we had two attacking guards we wanted to keep out front, allowing them to create by using a ball screen or rejecting into the gap. We wanted to keep shooters in the corners as much as possible. For as simple as the cocnept was, it was fairly effective against good competition. We started to add other options to make the offense less predictable with the zip and DHO options. Video clips below. Basketball Play - Central Arkansas - Circle Motion: Basic Ball Screen

Central Arkansas - Circle Motion: Basic Ball Screen

Matt Hackenberg 01/05/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of the Circle Motion Offense. This set play comes from Central Arkansas, and has a spread ball screen evolvong directly out of the circle motion action. The ball screener really has to get on their horse to get to the ball screen for solid timing on this action. Basketball Play - Horns Ball Screen - Roll/Pop Into Duck & Pins

Horns Ball Screen - Roll/Pop Into Duck & Pins

Matt Hackenberg 01/06/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of the horns alignment. The horns ball screen, rolling and popping, creates great 4 around 1 spacing for the high/low. I like the flow of the play after the high/low look, using the DHO to set up action on both sides. I would bet that at least one of the sides isn't defended properly after the high/low action. Basketball Play - Ball Screen Reject Screen In

Ball Screen Reject Screen In

Matt Hackenberg 01/19/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a princeton alignment. I think this set is good to generate a open look for a shooter a couple times a game. The more the set is used, the less likely it is to trick the defense. Basketball Play - Euro Ball Screen Stagger Set

Euro Ball Screen Stagger Set

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of the Euro Ball Screen Offense. I like that the action replicates the continuity element of Euro Ball Screen, and then breaks off into the set. It's a great surprise to keep well-prepared opponents on their toes as they anticipate one thing, and then another thing happens.
