The Warriors ran this play a couple times in the fourth quarter of their 99-88 win over the Trailblazers on 4/17/13. It was a back and forth game in the fourth quarter until the Warriors went on a run. This play is a simple entry into a side ball screen. Miami ran this play in their game 1 loss to the Bulls. Running Allen over the top of James and Anderson and having Miller spot up in the corner shifts the defense to the left. Noah got disconected from Anderson while helping on Wade coming off of the ball screen. x4 (Boozer) did not enter the lane because he had Mike Miller spotted up in the corner. Anderson was able to get deep post position inside of Boozer because the floor was spaced. NBA players are so good at the throw back pass off the ball screen x3 did not help on the roll man. OKC ran this set midway through the third quarter of game 2. At this point Durant had only taken 9 shots. He had the ball in his hands a lot and was facilitating for his teamates. This was a great set to get him a touch with the ball out of his hands. After he hit this shot he got it rolling to finish out the quarter. The UCLA Ball Screen-Stagger is a common set with a lot of options, many of which are posted on FastModel. Reversing the ball back to a shooter coming off a pin down is a great option. See More

Olympiacos ran this set with less than two minutes left in the first half of their Euroleague semi final win over CSKA. It is a relatively simple play, with the guards looping to set up a side ball screen, but the corner drift and flare from 4 to 1 kept the weak side defense occupied to free up the roll man. 2 could have passed to 3 in the corner, 1 coming off the flare, 4 slipping a screen, 4 stepping out after setting the screen, or 5 could have popped after setting the screen. The Spurs ran this at the 7:15 mark in the first quarter of their 104-93 game 3 win over Memphis. This is one of my favorite sets the Spurs run and it is very difficult to guard because the defender has to run off three screens and there are a variety of counters to each defensive adjustment. Often the 2 man comes offf 5's zipper screen but in this situation, 2 just cut to the top and 5 set the first of three screens. This play demonstrates just one option and read of many possibilities. The ending to this play was great because Memphis trapped the ball screen, Paker hit the pop man Duncan and then Duncan hit Paker on the backdoor cut. The unselfish ball movement by the Spurs is a great part of their offense. See More

Memphis ran this play at the 2:25 mark of the first quarter in their 93-104 OT loss in game three to the Spurs. After the reject of the ball screen, 1 dragged 5's defender out so 5 was wide open at the nail (midlle of the free throw line). Instead of giving Gasol the wide open free throw line jumper, Pondexters man rotated from the weakside corner to guard Gasol. Gasol reversed the ball to the corner for the wide open three point shot. Spurs opening play of the third quarter in their game three win over Memphis. The set up to the side ball screen is effective. Manu rejects the side ball screen and drives to the baseline throwing the running out of bounds one haded pass like Steve Nash. The help is in the lane and Duncan sets a great flare screen for a wide open Green in the corner for the 3 point shot. See More

Miami opened the 3rd quarter of their game 5 win over the Pacers with this elbow set. Utilizing down screens, hand offs, and ball screens Miami was able to open up driving lanes. The Pacers won the 1st and 4th quarter and tied the 2nd quarter but lost the 3rd quarter by 17 points. The Heat player movement, ball movement, shot making and offensive execution was excellent in this 30 point 3rd quarter. See More

The Heat ran this play in the 3rd quarter of their game 5 win over the Pacers. The actions is very similar to the play posted here http://www.fastmodelsports.com/library/basketball/fastdraw/2187/play-Elbow-Weak-Stagger The difference is instead of 4 screening 1 into a 2 man game with 3, 4 turns back to set the ball screen. Haslem's man was zoning the middle of the lane to protect a back door cut, a hard curl, or a slip. By having Haslem set the screen there was no type of help coverage on the ball screen and James had a wide open 17 ft. jump shot. See More

Elbow set run by the Heat in their game 5 win over the Pacers. Having a great shooter setting and running off screens forces the defense to provide a lot of help on the screens and be very active. Rolling James down the lane put a lot of pressure on the defense and it had to pull in leaving Haslem for the open jumper. See More
