Matt Hackenberg 12/10/2021

This offense was implemented to help incorporate constant screening and cutting into a continuity offense. There are options to score on cuts, post ups, down screening and slips. We've found wrinkles and set plays from within the base offense that have been effective. Basketball Play - Middle Tennessee - 1-3-1 Zone Variations

Middle Tennessee - 1-3-1 Zone Variations

Matt Wheeler 03/17/2017

Middle Tennessee has made it out of the first round of the NCAA Tournament as the underdog two years in a row. One of the keys to their success is the unique variations of the 1-3-1 defense that they use. They play a very aggressive version of the zone but what makes them different is how they rotate out of it to completely change their defense in the same possession. This can slow the opposing offense down and force them to get into a play late in the shot clock. See More

Basketball Play - 1-3-1 Zone Set Play

1-3-1 Zone Set Play

Dana Beszczynski 05/30/2015

John Beilein had a masterful game plan against the Syracuse 2-3 Zone and here is another example of moving players and the ball to get the best possible shot The Orangemen were consistently spread out by the passing of the Wolverines and had their fair share of open looks There were also many secondary options off the sets which created match-up problems for the vaunted Syracuse Zone Defense of Jim Boeheim See More

Basketball Play - Arizona 1-3-1 Zone Attack

Arizona 1-3-1 Zone Attack

David Taylor 03/27/2015

Arizona ran this set with minutes remaining in the first half of the sweet sixteen against Xavier. Xavier played 1-3-1 half court zone for the better part of the 1st half. A very effective zone play-they look to duck-in or seal the bottom of the zone, while screening the back-side of the zone for a shooter. Later in the game, Arizona started setting a flat screen instead of a regular high ball screen. See More

Basketball Play - 2-1-2 "Corners" Zone Offense (vs Odd Front)

2-1-2 "Corners" Zone Offense (vs Odd Front)

Matt Hackenberg 12/12/2021

"Corners" is our base zone offense against 1-3-1 zone, 3-2 zone, and any type of extended half court or 3/4 court. It provides great spacing to play against any form of trapping defense with the 2-1-2 alignment. Fake passes are critical, as well as not throwing passes with a lot of loft on them. Once in the scoring area, we look to dive our high post and flash to the middle when the ball gets to the corner.
