Basketball Play - Horns Flare

Horns Flare

Lucas Shapiro 02/24/2016

This is a great end-of-game set to get the ball to your playmaker. I stole this from Tim Floyd at UTEP after seeing them run it against Western Kentucky (2/6/16). UTEP plays small and has their best play-maker (Lee Moore, who is truly a guard) playing the 4. Ideally on this set you would like your play-maker to be switched onto by the other team's 5 man. Basketball Play - Indiana Pacers - Loop Chicago

Indiana Pacers - Loop Chicago

Lucas Shapiro 02/23/2016

The Pacers ran the common loop action on this set but did not give it to C.J Miles because he was being denied the ball. Instead they entered it into the post and ran Chicago action (off-ball screen into a dribble handoff). This created an open look for Miles even though his defender did not make contact with any of the offensive players. See More

Basketball Play - Chicago Bulls - DHO Flare

Chicago Bulls - DHO Flare

Lucas Shapiro 02/23/2016

Combining a dribble handoff with a weak side flare screen is a dangerous combination, especially when Doug McDermott is having a career night shooting the ball. The dribble handoff shifts the defense into help and the weak side flare screen takes advantage of this shift to get a shooter an open look. See More

Basketball Play - South Carolina - Zone Lob

South Carolina - Zone Lob

Lucas Shapiro 02/23/2016

This play came out of a timeout from South Carolina and shifted the momentum of the game. The key in this set is the ball reversals that make the defense ignore the weak side short corner. One of the most important concepts of attacking a zone defense is ball movement and attacking the gaps, but I’m a firm believer that screening a zone is even more dangerous. See More

Basketball Play - St. Bonaventure - Horns Backdoor

St. Bonaventure - Horns Backdoor

Lucas Shapiro 02/23/2016

When the Bonnies saw that Dayton was denying the elbow entry pass off of their Horns set, they started off the half trying to keep the defense honest with a quick backdoor cut for an easy two points. This set is a great way to set the tone for the half to let the opposing team know that you are not afraid of their pressure. See More

Basketball Play - Duke - Zone Baseline Runner

Duke - Zone Baseline Runner

Lucas Shapiro 02/19/2016

Duke opened up the second half with this quick hitter to get Grayson Allen an open three-pointer. They were ready for Louisville’s 3-2 zone and simply had Marshall Plumlee set a screen. This is a great way to knock a team’s confidence in their defense early on to make the opposing coach question what they are doing. See More
