Basketball Play - Back Reverse

Back Reverse

John Leonzo 06/21/2013

Here is a set play that Bucknell ran in the NCAA tournament this year against Butler. This is a counter to a similar action that they ran earlier in the same game. In the previous play 2 would cut to the corner opposite the ball and 1 would hit 3 on the wing for an ISO. In this counter 2 stops his cut under the basket and pops to the top of the key for a catch and shoot opportunity. This is an effective set when coupled with the previously described play. This is a great misdirection quick hitter! See More

NBA Play of the Day June 21: Miami Heat Floppy Action

Kevin Bruinsma 06/21/2013

The Miami Heat ran this set for Ray Allen against the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. They curled him around a double screen, to create seperation. Once Allen gets to the middle of the paint he slows down and re-evaluates where the defense is and can choose to turn around and run off a stagger or continue and run off the single. Against the Pacers he ran off the single which happened to be Lebron James who dove to the rim after setting his screen. See More

Basketball Play - Grizzly

Grizzly

John Leonzo 06/21/2013

Here is a quick hitter that was run by Lionel Hollins and the Memphis Grizzlies this past NBA season. The wide pin down to dribble hand off action is very hard to guard and can either get you a good look at a basket or create a mismatch opportunity if the defense elects to switch. See More

Basketball Play - Pacer Weave Duck In

Pacer Weave Duck In

The Pacers ran this set in a late clock situation right before the end of the First Half in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals vs the Miami Heat. #21 David West with a textbook example of ducking in, sealing a defender. This play didn't result in a basket as West missed an open lay-up. But the job he does of going along the baseline, then coming back towards the rim sealing they switching defender was tremendous. Basketball Play - Pacer Misdirection

Pacer Misdirection

Kevin Bruinsma 06/18/2013

The Indiana Pacers ran this set a few times in the ECF against the Miami Heat. They utilized mis-direction against an aggressive Heat defense to keep Miami on their toes. Following the UCLA screen and flex screen the 1 man then turns right back around to get the 3, letting #24 Paul George run off a stagger screen. This brought the 1 off a down screen and gave him the ball back in a better scoring area for him to create. See More

Basketball Play - Pacer Late Clock SLOB

Pacer Late Clock SLOB

Kevin Bruinsma 06/18/2013

Although this set didn't result in a basket or even free throws it forced a great defensive effort from the Miami Heat to stop the Pacers from scoring. This action puts a lot of pressure on the defense as they have to guard a mis direction cut by the 2, then the stagger iverson action for #24 Paul George who everyone thinks the play is going to, a flare screen for #21 David West, and then finally a slip/dive to the rim by #55 Roy Hibbert. This set had some fantastic actions. See More
