Basketball Play - Detroit's Wing Iso

Detroit's Wing Iso

Kevin Bruinsma 01/28/2015

A play 100% designed to isolate your more athletic or stronger 4 man on the side of the floor. Detroit utilizes #2 Juwan Howard Jr. in multiple ways but he's at his best when he can play 1 on 1 basketball. Detroit isn't a team that runs a ton of offense but they push it hard in transition and attempt to create mis-matches thru blowing the ball up the floor. After transition their best offense is finding different ways to isolate players on the floor, in this case #2 Howard. He gets the switch in the ball screen and then all of the help on the back side is guards. With his strength & quickness he can power it up over smaller defenders. See More

Basketball Play - CSU 5 Man Iso & USF Side Elevator (2 plays)

CSU 5 Man Iso & USF Side Elevator (2 plays)

Kevin Bruinsma 02/03/2015

Tied at 59-59 with under two minutes to go in a Non-Conference game between Cleveland State/San Francsico. The first diagram & Video is the CSU 5 Man Iso. #15 Anton Grady is their cornerstone player and in a big situation they love to clear out the side and let him either score or distribute. In this clip he kicks it out to the corner for a huge 3. San Francsico then took the ball out and pushed it up the floor right into a side elevator screen for #32 Derksen who is their best scoring wing. Their action was so successful because of how smoothly they got into it and executed after giving up a big 3. See More

Basketball Play - UWM DHO Post Iso

UWM DHO Post Iso

Kevin Bruinsma 02/22/2015

This action is Milwaukee's favorite way to get the ball on the block to their 5 man. They can run this set out of transition or in a half court situation since the ball enters to a wing player thru a dribble handoff (DHO). Milwaukee has always had a 4 man that can shoot the ball, which makes the 4’s ball screen on the 2 man the first threat to this play. The 4 man pops to an empty side of the floor while the 1 cross screens for the 5 which occupies both defenders. If he can’t shoot the 3, he waits for 5 to come across the lane and throws it inside. It’s a fairly simple play to discuss, teach, & walk thru but difficult to defend especially if their 4 man is hitting shots. See More

Basketball Play - UK Iso Blob

UK Iso Blob

Kevin Bruinsma 05/21/2015

Although a very basic play it accomplished exactly what UK was hoping for, 1 on 1 with the ball 15 feet from the rim in their best dribble drive player’s hands. In the video included you will see that #1 Booker took the ball out and didn’t run the play correctly. You can tell he screwed the play up because #5 Harrison in the corner of the court is pointing and yelling at him to run off the double screen being set by the 4 & 5. Booker entered the ball to #2 Harrison who popped back to catch the ball at the elbow. With a shooter in the ball side corner, and the in-bounder running off a double screen set by the two bigs it eliminates help side defense so that Harrison now can play 1 on 1 from 15 feet away from the basket. Basketball Play - Iverson Cut - 4 Iso

Iverson Cut - 4 Iso

Kevin Bruinsma 07/03/2015

This is a play we ran at Illinois State to get an isolation look for our under sized 4 man against their bigger & slower 4 man. It ended up working out so he could just curl the screen to the rim for a lay-up but the play was originally designed for him to pop to the open side of the floor and play 1 on 1. The great thing about this action is there are so many things you can do out of the base iverson cut. See More

Basketball Play - Oklahoma Post Iso

Oklahoma Post Iso

Kevin Bruinsma 05/16/2016

Oklahoma on offense ran a lot of dribble weave to force the defense to communicate and make decisions weather to switch hand offs, go under, open up and slide thru, or go over the top. This was one of the few actions they ran against Villanova to get the ball on the block. In this play I would recommend using your best player like Oklahoma used #24 Heild. The action is a simple rub screen to allow the post player to seal his man deeper then he normally would be able too. By using your best player to set the rub screen it forces his man to stay attached to him which creates essentially a double screen, plus the 5 man defending the post may show or offer some help in defending the best player. Basketball Play - Hi-Lo Post Iso

Hi-Lo Post Iso

Al Baker 07/29/2013

This is adapted from a play Gregg Marshall runs at Wichita State. This action will get your 4 a couple different opportunities to catch in the paint. It's important to emphasize the reverse pivot from the post player (4) to seal his defender under the rim. Timing is critical to avoid a 3-second violation. See More
