Here is a play out of the Box alignment that can be used in late game situations when you need a easy lay-up or three. We use the concepts that we try to have all of our screens set to where they cause a mismatch if the defense was to switch. This has been called "The Beautiful Play". The Spurs ran this at the end of the 3rd quarter in Game 6 of the WCF at OKC. The Spurs are winning 72-69 and have possession after a great steal and hustle play by Patty Mills. Coach Popovich calls the play. Manu gets the guys in the right position and waits the clock out. Around 7 seconds left on the clock Duncan sprints to screen Fisher. Manu dribbles left and hits Mills. Mills fires to Duncan. Duncan hits Boris in the corner for a three as the shot clock expires. The Spurs would go on to win Game 6 in overtime. This play includes end of quarter situations, communication, first class passing, and they did it on the road. Beautiful. See More

This Baseline Out of Bounce Play was run ferquently by Davidson College a few years back, when Stephen Curry was the focal point of their offensive attack. It is a great option if you are looking for a quick "3" after a time out or need a open look in a late game situation. See More

I recently watched some video from last year's Brayden Carr Foundation Coaching Clinic run by coach Jim Carr. This play came from the legendary John Lucas and is a very simple sideline out-of-bounds play from the side that gives you a lob. Main goal of this action is to get the lob to 5 at the rim. However, if the defense takes away the lob you have 4 cutting hard to the top for a catch & shoot as well. See More

With 3 seconds left in the 3rd quarter of Game 3 of the 2014 NBA Finals, the San Antonio Spurs ran this sideline out-of-bounds play. As soon as 1 cleared Diaw’s shoulder he shaped up back to the ball immediately to receive the pass from Green. Green was able to get a shot off but Miami’s defense prevent him from getting a clean look and the shot came up short. See More

Motion Hold is a great play to run in a late game situation in which you are holding for a last shot or waiting for the defensive to commit a foul. This play incorporates multiple screening options to get either wing open. In most cases you want to keep the ball in your guard(s) hands for better ball-handling and free throw shooting. However, if you get into an urgent situation your bigs are allowed to flash as a release if needed.
