Basketball Play - Fist

Fist

Cody Toppert 09/18/2015

If the 1 puts up a fist this can indicate a 1-4 MPNR. Depending on your roster you can choose to always pop the 4 and dive the 5 across the lane or you can roll the 4 and pop the 5. Either way a kick back to the pop man brings the 2 up for a 2-5 Chase SPNR. See More

Basketball Play - Floppy DHO

Floppy DHO

Cody Toppert 09/04/2015

A DHO entry to Floppy will most likely be on the wing Guard to Guard. This means the point guard would speed dribble pitch the ball to the corner wing coming up. The wing will now become the point of initiation and the point guard will be come the activated player. This look most likely proceeds to be a back screening action by the strong side big. The popular version employed by the San Antonio Spurs involves a guard-to-guard DHO and a triple staggered baseline screen for Tony Parker who sprints the base line to find the scoring option on the weak side. Important to not the weak side wing must be the second screener I order to prevent a switch on the final screen, thus negating any type of advantage or open shot. Once the defense gets use to the triple baseline screen, Tony Parker will often times enter and exit the same side, thus showing us a DHO into a traditional Floppy Look. See More

Basketball Play - Floppy Drop

Floppy Drop

Cody Toppert 09/04/2015

Our Floppy Drop is a great way to take advantage of a good post up guard. As the activated player uses the double pin down from the PF and SF the C flashes to the elbow. The PF then clears to the weak side corner, the SG settles on the wing while the PG hits the 5 at the elbow. The SF remains in the low post and looks to find deep postposition for a drop pass or easy score in the paint. This is especially effective when you have a height and strength advantage at the SF position. See More

Basketball Play - Floppy Punch

Floppy Punch

Cody Toppert 09/04/2015

Punch indicates that after the small uses the pin down and receives the ball on the wing the big who set the pin down will post up. We then look for a post entry, after which team philosophies take over (cut through below the block, down the middle, split the guard or space). See More

Basketball Play - Elbow

Elbow

Rory Hamilton 08/07/2015

The beauty of this set is its simplicity and freedom. The point guard looks to attack the top defender and drag off the point while the weak side post player flashes hard to the elbow for a potential shot. After the pass, the point guard cuts hard to hoop and then opposite block looking for a quick give and go. The weak side post player waits for point guard to clear and then flashes to elbow and the continuity continues. Another nice option off of "elbow" is creating a high low pass. After a post passes to elbow and cuts to opposite block, the flashing offensive player can immediately look to dump it inside to low posted player sealing off zone defender. See More

Basketball Play - KU

KU

Rory Hamilton 08/07/2015

I saw Bill Self run this a few years ago against a triangle and two and it has been in my playbook ever since. It has the same concepts as "3-low" from my previous post on attacking a box and 1 . The initial set up is a double stack low with one perimeter player being guarded man to man with the ball, and the other man to man player on the right block. Post players are positioned at both blocks and other guard not being played man to man on the left block. The play is initiated by a double screen low for the unguarded guard to go baseline and look to receive a pass for a shot. After screening the guarded player then clears out to the weak side elbow area. The ball side post player immediately screens the weak side zone defender for a baseline bounce pass while the screener flashes back to middle of the zone. The point guard then screens away for the other guarded player or they can cut through and exchange. On ball reversal, the guard comes off two baseline screens and looks to receive a pass along the baseline and the strong side post screens away and flashes back to the middle and the continuity continues. Basketball Play - UNI Post Counter

UNI Post Counter

Wes Kosel 07/25/2015

This play starts the same as "Post Back", with 2 cutting to the corner, 1 screening for 5, and the ball being reversed the 1 on the right wing. This time, 4 screens for 3 and 3 makes a hard cut to the rim. If 4's defender jumps ahead of the screen thinking that 4 will be screened by 3, 2 can move in from the corner and set a flare screen for 4. 5 passes to 4 for a shot on the wing. See More

UNI Post Back

Wes Kosel 07/25/2015

The play starts in a 1-4 high with 1 passing to 3 on the wing and 2 cutting to the opposite corner. 1 screens down for 5 then pops out to the right wing. 3 passes to 5 who reversed the ball to 1. 4 screens for 3 who cuts into the lane and then turns around to quickly screen for 4. 1 looks to pass to 4 cutting to the rim.
