Basketball Play - Point of Board Shooting

Point of Board Shooting

Daniel Murphy 04/25/2013

I got this drill from Dr. Hal Wissel, former assistant coach to Hubie Brown with the Memphis Grizzlies. He uses it at his Shoot it Better mini camps. It is very similar to the Navy Shooting drill Bert DeSalvo shared with Fastmodel http://www.fastmodelsports.com/library/basketball/fastdraw/1567/play-Navy-Shooting This drill will show the shooter when their mechanics are perfect. After focusing on a target as small as the point of the backboard, the rim seems much larger. Dr. Wissel believes in doing this 100 times per day. I have my players shoot 10 perfect shots before moving on to the next drill. See More

Basketball Play - Navy Shooting

Navy Shooting

Bert DeSalvo 01/29/2013

This is a warm up drill that we used almost every day when I was the head coach at Penn State Beaver. I got this dril from Billy Lange when I worked his camp at the Naval Academy in 2008. This simple, but effective, drill worked on our mechanics and emphasized all aspects of great shooting technique. Players are able to keep alignment, get on their toes when shooting and holding follow through in this drill. In addition, they really can see which way they are missing because of the use of hte side of the backboard. This drill can be used for time (2 minutes) or amount of shots or makes. I would also work on our two step layups or add another shooter at the front of the rim to utilize my players and the rims more efficiently. See More

Basketball Play - 5 Spot In-a-Rows Shooting Drill

5 Spot In-a-Rows Shooting Drill

Randy Brown 01/24/2013

If you are looking for a competitive shooting drill you will like this 5 spot in-a-rows drill. Players are given five spots to shoot from. They must make the first shot to continue their "in-a-row" total from that spot. This can be a peer pressure drill also by comparing total shots made by all players. See More

Basketball Play - Circle Movement Shooting Drill

Circle Movement Shooting Drill

Coach Czes 11/01/2012

We run this combination drill for 10 minutes with half of the team on each end of the court, starting on the right side. We do 1:30 shot fake and drive, 1:30 shot fake-escape dribble jumper, and 2:00 catch and shoot. Then we switch ENDS (they are now all on the left side of court) and work back down. 2:00 catch and shoot, 1:30 shot fake-escape dribble jumper, 1:30 shot fake and drive. We stress ball fakes before the pass, jump stop finishes, great closeouts, making great shot fakes, calling names out on passes, and covering ground with our dribble. See More
