Basketball Play - UCLA to Stagger

UCLA to Stagger

Andrew Lacey 04/10/2015

Here is an little adjustment to the UCLA to Ball Screen action that I posted earlier. Here we use the UCLA (rub cut) and allow the Post to reverse the ball to change the sides of the floor. You can get a nice ISO inside early on the reversal or you can wait for the jumper as the second option. See More

Basketball Play - Wichita State Stack to Stagger

Wichita State Stack to Stagger

Wes Kosel 04/08/2015

This play starts with a pass to the left wing and a UCLA cut from the point guard to the ball-side block. If your point guard can post up, this is an easy look inside. If not, the ball can be reversed creating a situation for a cross-screen/stagger-screen action sending 3 to the basket and 1 to the top of the key for a shot. See More

Basketball Play - Shocker Stagger

Shocker Stagger

Wes Kosel 04/08/2015

Here is a multiple stagger set play from Wichita State. The play starts with an entry pass to the wing and a back-screen for the point guard. As the point cuts into the lane, 4 moves to the ball-side block looking for the post up. The first staggered screen is then set getting the shooting guard the ball at the top of the key. If no shot is available, 5 and 2 play a pick-and-roll as 3 cuts off of a baseline staggered screen to the corner. See More

Basketball Play - UCLA to Ball Screen

UCLA to Ball Screen

Andrew Lacey 04/07/2015

Here is a nice little ATO set that can be used in late game situations or when you need a basket. Starting in a 1-4 High alignment can allow for the defense to be vulerable to the back door cut. Nonetheless the ball screen actions will draw a lot of attention and allow for the three on the wing or the reversal and throw inside. See More

Basketball Play - Miami Hurricanes Horns Hi/Lo Options

Miami Hurricanes Horns Hi/Lo Options

Wes Kosel 03/29/2015

Here are two hi/lo options out of the horns set from Miami. Miami is playing well in the NIT with a chance to advance to the finals with a win over Temple. In these options, the Hurricanes use a horns staggered screen with the point guard dribbling from left to right. In the first option, 4 rolls and 5 sets a pin down for 3 in the corner. Once 3 gets the ball he looks to pass inside to 5 or to 4 flashing high post for a hi/lo look. In the second option, 4 sets a flare-screen for 5 before cutting to the block. If 5 isn't open on the screen, he sets a screen for 3 who gets the ball at the top of the key. 3 again looks at 5 or to 4 flashing high. See More

Basketball Play - Louisville Lob to Stagger

Louisville Lob to Stagger

Wes Kosel 03/29/2015

Here is a lob option used by Rick Pitino and his Louisville Cardinals. The play uses a lot of side-to-side action getting the defense to chase cutters around the floor. The play starts with all 5 players above the free-throw line. The point guard passes to 4 then cuts to the basket off of a back-screen from 5. If the quick lob isn't there, 2 cuts across the floor weaving between screens from 5 and 4. Once 2 gets the ball, he gets a staggered ball-screen from the bigs. Multiple scoring options in this play make it difficult for teams to guard. See More

Basketball Play - UNC Lob / Post Seal

UNC Lob / Post Seal

Craig LeVasseur 03/27/2015

Similar to a set play we saw from SMU in the round of 64, North Carolina ran this look against Wisconsin in the Sweet 16. The first look is for the 5 man over the top for a lob. If the lob isn't there, 5 seals for a post up. A weakside stagger occupies any help for the post defender. See More

Shocker Rip Stagger

Craig LeVasseur 03/26/2015

Wichita State ran this set around the 10:00 mark of the first half in their NCAA matchup against Notre Dame, resulting in a 3pt basket. This play features multiple scoring options, with a backscreen lob option for 1, a ballscreen for the 2, and a stagger screen for the 3, not to mention opportunities for the bigs to slip on any screen.
