Favorite Send to FastDrawStephen F. Austin ran this BLOB set against Utah late in the 2nd half of their Round 2 matchup. The Lumberjacks were within striking distance of the Utes and needed quality scoring opportunities. This play worked to perfection but the open 3 didn't fall. This multiple action set utilizes misdirection for the shooter followed by a stagger. SFA had no trouble completing the handoff or getting the open 3 they were looking for. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawOhio State ran this modified flex vs. VCU after setting it up with multiple possessions of their basic horns set. After using misdirection, the VCU defender is expecting a second misdirection screen but the 1 only uses one ball screen taking him to the wing. The help side defenders are also anticipating a guard attack or post dive to the paint. This action allows the ball handler and the cutter (flex) the entire side of the floor to work with. During this particular set the flex cut was covered and the ball was sent to the 2 coming off of a stagger screen. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawButler used this play after a timeout near the end of the game against Texas to get Dunham in a position to drive off of a staggered screen. The play starts with the point guard dribbling to the right as Dunham cuts off of a down-screen from 5. Once Dunham has the ball, 4 and 5 set up a staggered high ball-screen. In the game, Dunham turned down the staggered screen and drove to the basket forcing Texas to foul on the penetration. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawTexas used this play early in the second half to get an open shot for Holmes. Ridley was called for an illegal screen, but Texas should continue with actions similar to this and force Butler to chase Jonathan Holmes around screens. If Ridley holds the screen, it will be difficult for defenders to get around him. The play starts with an entry pass to 4 at the high post. 5 (Ridley) sets an up-screen for the point guard then both 1 and 5 set a staggered screen for Holmes in the corner. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this play by UAB, the Blazers send the 3 down underneath the basket where he then has the option to cut off of a staggered screen or single screen. Early in the game, UAB has been utilizing the single option. Once 3 gets to the wing, 1 and 2 clear out to the perimeter and 4 and 5 move up to set a staggered ball-screen for 3. The play has been blown up by Iowa State so they haven't gotten all the way through to the ball-screen, but it is a solid action that will force the Cyclones to defend UAB's quick guards. See More
Favorite Send to FastDraw#1 can come off a ball screen from either #4 or #5 The first screener slips to the rim, the second screen pops #3 cuts to free throw line extended The ball is passed to the top of the key where the player looks high/low If the high/low is not there, the ball is reversed #4 and #1 set a staggered screen away for #2 See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawRobert Morris used this play in the second half against North Florida in NCAA First Four action. This is a common NBA hawk set sometimes known as 351. The 3 man's defender has all of the work here, as he must commit to helping on the hawk screen just enough to force a difficult Show on the side p/r, and then must recover back to the pick and pop. In this game, UNF was aware of the play and x2 cheated off of his man to rotate to the 3 man on the pick and pop. Lucky Jones was still able to get the defender off his feet, however, and drew a 3 shot foul. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawNCAA Tournament First Four: Here is a play from the first half of Robert Morris vs. North Florida. Robert Morris got off to a hot start early in the game running a variety of actions to score. In this play, Robert Morris was looking for a 3-point shot. The play starts with 4 running down the lane lane to screen for 3 at the block. 3 cuts out to the wing to get the ball from 1. If 3 has a 3-point shot here he will take it. If 3 doesn't have a shot, the next 3-point shot option is 2 cutting off of a staggered screen. Lastly, the 3rd look at a 3-point shot is 1 curling around 5 at the top of the key. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawBYU ran this misdirection play against Ole Miss in the NCAA First Round. It starts with a stagger screen for the 1 man, a dangerous shooter. While this happens, 2 sets a token ballscreen for the ballhandler and immediately slips the screen. The 1 man curls the stagger and clears while the 5 man turns back and sets a flare screen for the 2 after he slipped the ballscreen. A great defensive effort by x2 prevented a 3 point shot here, but the 2 man still made a quick read and drove baseline to the basket for a foul. See More
