Zipper Series Breakdown Zipper = a cut off a down screen up the free throw lane line. 3 sets that involve a Zipper action as the base and finish with a different aciton: America, Slice and Flex. Zipper Series plays are great for a players who have difficulty getting open, or a point guard who is a primary scorer. This plays also works well against teams who deny off the ball. As each set begins the same way, the defense does not know which action is coming after the Zipper, making it difficult to scout and guard. See More

The New Orleans Pelicans used a cut from their point guard to create misdirection to set up this elevator screen. 1 dribbled to the wing and passed to 3, who was cutting up top off a zipper screen. 1 then cut to the right side of the court using a screen from 5. 2 brought the action back to the left side of the floor by cutting through the elevator screen from 4 & 5. The Minnesota Lynx used this pindown action to get an open shot off a screen for Seimone Augustus early in Game 2 of the WNBA Finals. 1 dribbled to the wing as 2 (Augustus) cut off the zipper screen. Once 2 received the pass from 1, the Lynx went to a Horns/Elbow formation with 5 flashing to the elbow and 1 cutting to the corner. After 2 passes to 4 she cuts to the basket to set up the pindown screen for 5, which gets her an open shot at the free throw line. See More

Creative ball screen set ran by the Boston Celtics this season. Boston used this action to flow into an elbow ball screen for a guard who had a stretch 4 replacing behind the ball screen. Having the center come off a zipper down screen is a creative design on an already tough action to guard. See More

Common ball screen set run by Ratiopharm Ulm who won the Germany-BBL regular season title. The set starts in a horns alignment and includes a flex screen, zipper screen, and dribble weave action into the spread pick and roll. Many teams in Europe will commoly have different entries that eventually flow into the spread pick and roll to create confusion amongst the defense. The defense must defend mutiple different actions with this spread pick and roll entry and will have to properly communicate in order to properly defend the dribble weave ball screen. See More
