06/14/2013Baseline out of bounds play ran by the CT in their 66-62 loss to the Mystics 6/7/13. The play starts off with a familiar box set action. Often when 4 passes to 1, 4 would screen the screener. The Sun flipped the down screeners, having a big screen a little into the lane. Usually a little will screen a big into the lane. This change allowed 2 to run the baseline coming off of 4 and 5's screens. Having the bigs screen the guard on the baseline should prevent a switch. See More

NBA Play of the Day June 10: Miami Heat Horns Down 12
06/10/2013Elbow set run by the Heat in their game 5 win over the Pacers. Having a great shooter setting and running off screens forces the defense to provide a lot of help on the screens and be very active. Rolling James down the lane put a lot of pressure on the defense and it had to pull in leaving Haslem for the open jumper. See More

NBA Play of the Day June 9: Miami Heat Horns Weak
06/09/2013The Heat ran this play in the 3rd quarter of their game 5 win over the Pacers. The actions is very similar to the play posted here http://www.fastmodelsports.com/library/basketball/fastdraw/2187/play-Elbow-Weak-Stagger The difference is instead of 4 screening 1 into a 2 man game with 3, 4 turns back to set the ball screen. Haslem's man was zoning the middle of the lane to protect a back door cut, a hard curl, or a slip. By having Haslem set the screen there was no type of help coverage on the ball screen and James had a wide open 17 ft. jump shot. See More

NBA Play of the Day June 8 : MIami Heat Horns Down 25
06/08/2013Miami opened the 3rd quarter of their game 5 win over the Pacers with this elbow set. Utilizing down screens, hand offs, and ball screens Miami was able to open up driving lanes. The Pacers won the 1st and 4th quarter and tied the 2nd quarter but lost the 3rd quarter by 17 points. The Heat player movement, ball movement, shot making and offensive execution was excellent in this 30 point 3rd quarter. See More

Memphis Staggered Rip
06/02/2013Memphis ran this play at the 5:21 mark of their game three loss to the Spurs. This layup by Randolph put Memphis up by 11. The Spurs made two consecuctive defensive errors on this play. First, Randolph was doubled in the post leaving Gasol wide open at the free throw line. After Pondexter ball faked to the free throw line both Spurs guarding Randolph ran to the free throw line. Z-Bo was left unguarded on the block for the layup. Regardless of the Spurs defensive lapses, this is a good set involving screening to get the ball into the post. See More

Spurs Triple
06/01/2013The Spurs ran this at the 7:15 mark in the first quarter of their 104-93 game 3 win over Memphis. This is one of my favorite sets the Spurs run and it is very difficult to guard because the defender has to run off three screens and there are a variety of counters to each defensive adjustment. Often the 2 man comes offf 5's zipper screen but in this situation, 2 just cut to the top and 5 set the first of three screens. This play demonstrates just one option and read of many possibilities. The ending to this play was great because Memphis trapped the ball screen, Paker hit the pop man Duncan and then Duncan hit Paker on the backdoor cut. The unselfish ball movement by the Spurs is a great part of their offense. See More

Manu rejects the side ball screen and drives to the baseline throwing the running out of bounds one haded pass like Steve Nash. Because George is a enough of a threat to shoot the 3 and can drive Hibberts man has to stay with George coming off the screen. The Heat ran this in their 30 point 3rd quarter. Haslem stepped up big in game 5 scoring 16 points on 8-9 shooting. He hit shots from the short corner, got a catch and rip for a dunk and because the defense had to respect his jump shot is involved in the drive and kick game . See More

NBA Play of the Day May 30: Memphis Grizzlies Horns DHO
05/30/2013Memphis ran this play at the 2:25 mark of the first quarter in their 93-104 OT loss in game three to the Spurs. After the reject of the ball screen, 1 dragged 5's defender out so 5 was wide open at the nail (midlle of the free throw line). Instead of giving Gasol the wide open free throw line jumper, Pondexters man rotated from the weakside corner to guard Gasol. Gasol reversed the ball to the corner for the wide open three point shot.
