Basketball Play - Transition Weak Pindown

Transition Weak Pindown

Daniel Murphy 08/05/2013

Transition play to get a quick shot off a curl from a pindown with a handoff or dribble hand off counter. If 1 throws the ball ahead to 2 and 2 can't feed 5 in the post, a trailing 4 can set a weakside pindown. If 3 is not open on the curl, then 4 steps back to the ball and plays a two man game with 1. Basketball Play - Pacer Deny Action

Pacer Deny Action

Kevin Bruinsma 06/14/2013

A common screen the screener set ran by a lot of High School, College, and NBA teams was used by the Indiana Pacers against the Miami Heat. As you will see in most of Indiana's play sets they run a lot of stuff for their 3 man, #24 Paul George. Here they use George to set the back screen for the post before he runs off 5's screen for a wing catch. He has the option to shoot, drive, or dump it inside to the posting #55 Roy Hibbert. See More

Basketball Play - Hand Off Single/Double

Hand Off Single/Double

Basketball HQ 08/28/2012

This set was run by the Chicago Bulls in the 2006-2007 season. This set works best if your point guard can shoot the ball. The play is designed to get your wing in an isolation postion off of the hand off from 4, and if he can't create his own shot, he has the point guard coming off a double screen for a three point shot, or his shooting guard coming off of a single screen for a midrange or three point shot depending on how the defense is playing. Basketball Play - 4

4

Alan Peel 01/06/2014

This is a pre-set that is a variation of Zipper. The pre-set is what is called "Utah" action as it is a back screen for the post that looks similar to Zipper action. For more, check out my website www.coachpeelbasketball.com, sign up for a membership, and get your first 30 days free. See More

Basketball Play - BULLS ELEVATOR

BULLS ELEVATOR

Jens Hakanowitz 02/18/2015

The Chicago Bulls used this BLOB during the 2014/2015 NBA season. A simple back screen gives the screener an option to use an elevator effectively afterwards. If X1 bumps on the basket cut, than 1 will have a clear path through the elevator. If X1 and X2 decide to switch the back screen, than 1 fakes setting the screen and slips through the elevator earlier. See More

Basketball Play - Off

Off

John Leonzo 06/24/2013

"Off" is another great set to run as a counter if your team has an offense that incorporates the Iverson cut. One of the strongest parts of this set the spacing and the opportunities that the offense has as a result. 5 ducking in hard in front of the rim is a great option and 2 has a lot of room to create coming off of the ball screen. This is a great way to get a good look while giving your players a good amount of freedom. See More

Basketball Play - Up X

Up X

Rich Czeslawski 08/09/2012

Up X can be run either way. In our diagram, 1 dribbles to the right lane line extended. 4 L cuts and steps out to receive the pass from 1. 1 cuts off 5's UCLA screen to the rim. 4 passes to 1 if open. If 1 is not open, the ball is passed to 5, the screener, right away. After 4 passes to 5, he fakes a screen away for 3. 1 steps out and sets a back pick for 2. 5 should pass to 2 if open for a layup. Usually 2 is not open. The ball should be passed immediately from 5 to 1. 2 continues his cut across the lane and back picks for 4, who cuts to the ball side block for a layup. As 2 sets the screen for 4, 5 screens down on X2. 2 then comes off 5's screen to the top of the key for a three point shot. 3 must cut away to occupy his weak side defender. 1 passes to 4 for the layup or 2 for the three point shot. Aggie Zone Quick Hitter

Wes Kosel 07/17/2015

In this zone quick hitter, 1 dribbles left as 3 runs the baseline to the opposite corner. 5 screens the bottom zone defender on 3's side. Once 3 gets to the corner, 2 cuts to the rim and 1 passes to 3. 3 dribbles up from the corner as 4 screens the inside defender and 2 screens the low defender on the opposite side. 5 slips around the screens to the block. If 5 isn't open, 5 screens in for 2 who cuts to the corner for a shot. See More

Basketball Play - Kansas Jayhawks Zone Lob

Kansas Jayhawks Zone Lob

Wes Kosel 07/08/2015

In this play from Bill Self, Kansas gets an open lob against a zone defense. 1 starts by dribbling to the right pushing 3 to the corner and sending 2 into the lane and back out to replace 1. Once 2 is on the perimeter, 1 passes back to 2 forcing the defense to turn and face the ball. With the attention off of 3 in the corner, he sneaks along the baseline as 5 and 4 screen up into the lane. 2 makes the lob pass to 3 for a dunk. See More

Basketball Play - Arizona 1-3-1 Zone Attack

Arizona 1-3-1 Zone Attack

David Taylor 03/26/2015

Arizona ran this set with minutes remaining in the first half of the sweet sixteen against Xavier. Xavier played 1-3-1 half court zone for the better part of the 1st half. A very effective zone play-they look to duck-in or seal the bottom of the zone, while screening the back-side of the zone for a shooter. Later in the game, Arizona started setting a flat screen instead of a regular high ball screen. See More

Basketball Play - Zipper Down Quick

Zipper Down Quick

Kyle Gilreath 02/26/2015

Last night late in their game vs the Houston Rockets, LA Clippers head coach Doc Rivers drew up this sideline out-of-bounds play in a timeout to get a 3-pointer for JJ Redick. While the shot didn't go in, and it wasn't exactly a clean look, the initial action and options were great and ones that can be tweaked for success. See More

Basketball Play - Pin Down with Hand Off

Pin Down with Hand Off

Basketball HQ 10/17/2012

Shooter needs to set his man up and come off of the pin down screen hard. Handoff man needs to find the shooters man and dribble right at him and set a good screen as he hands the ball off. Get a shot for your best player or let them make a play for another teammate off of the handoff. This play is from the 2005-2006 Duke season. See More

Basketball Play - Atlanta "45" Series

Atlanta "45" Series

Daniel Murphy 06/27/2013

Another series Atlanta ran in their win over the Sun on 6/23. The set begins with a simple cross screen and from there the ball can go inside or outside. The key to the play is Atlanta has a versitile Olympian at the 4. She's a 6'1 guard/forward who can finish inside, shoot the three or drive the ball to the basket. The cross screen-rip screen post iso was an effective way to get the ball in the post. See More
