Basketball Play - UIC Horns Screen-Screener

UIC Horns Screen-Screener

Kevin Bruinsma 02/10/2015

With Horns being such a popular set at all levels I thought I’d take a look at another action that UIC ran in their game at Milwaukee. They dribbled the point guard over to the wing and had him dribble off both 4 & 5 ball screens. Milwaukee tried to defend this in multiple ways which you will see in the video below. They tried to hedge it with the 5 man, and then they attempted to switch it. I thought this action was great to get your point guard off two ball screens, then get your 2 man coming off a screen the screener for a shot. See More

Basketball Play - 14 Curl/Triple

14 Curl/Triple

Randy Brown 04/22/2014

Many scoring opportunities exist with this play. 2 and 3 may get free for a shot or drive from the initial flare screens by 4-5. Next, 5 cuts down lane with screen from 4. Finally, 2 takes triple stagger to get open for shot on left side. See More

Basketball Play - Triangle

Triangle

Bert DeSalvo 03/22/2014

Larry Johnson, Head Women's Basketball Coach, used this set in the 2010-11 season to free up a quick guard cutting off the backscreen. If the cutter gets help from screeners man, then the backscreener has a 3pt FGA. See More

Basketball Play - Horns Punch 2

Horns Punch 2

Daniel Murphy 05/16/2013

The Bulls ran this play in the second quarter of their game one win over Miami. It is a simple Horns set which isolates a guard on the block. If you have a guard who is good as posting up and and has a mismatch inside, this is a great way to get the ball close to the basket. Keep in mind 4 and 5 have to step out and work to get open in order to feed the ball to the guard on the block. See More

Basketball Play - HUBIE DRILL

HUBIE DRILL

Fabian McKenzie 03/16/2015

This Drill starts with 5 players along the baseline. 4 and 5 will run wide lanes 2 and 3 will run inside lanes Players begin to sprint up the court. 1 passes to 2 2 passes to 3 3 passes to 4 4 passes to 5 for a layup There are no dribbles allowed to get the ball up the court and into the basket While it may look a little confusing it is really fluid. 1 always gets the rebound. 2 and 3 touch the baseline and change lanes 4 and 5 must touch baseline and change lanes The drill continues in the same pattern 1 passes to 2 2 passes to 3 3 passes to 4 4 passes to 5 for a layup Options: You can have another group ready to go and challenge the entire team to make a certain amount of layups withing a time frame. A missed layup or missed pass can reset the score to zero for a tougher challenge. We have also done this drill where we build it up from down and back to 2 or 3 times down and back. Another variation is if the players miss a layup they must continue until they get 2 layups in a row See More

Basketball Play - Zipper 3

Zipper 3

John Leonzo 05/29/2013

Here is a zipper set that is run to get the ball in the hands of your best decision maker (1 in this play) and gives you plenty of scoring oppertunities. The spurs run a variation of this play with much success by putting Parker at the 1. Ginobli at the 2 (who can get a 3 on the extra pass from 3) and Danny Green at the 3. The skills of these players puts a lot of stress on the defense and makes this quick hitter hard to guard. See More

Basketball Play - Side

Side

Alan Peel 02/12/2014

This is a backcourt out of bounds play designed to handle a full court press with the ball on a side. We use the crossing action of #'s 2 and 4 to open up #2 coming up the floor. Otherwise, we look to read the screen set by #5 for #1 to get the ball inbounds. For more, check out my website www.coachpeelbasketball.com, sign up for a membership, and get your first 30 days free. Basketball Play - Elbow Flex Special

Elbow Flex Special

Kyle Gilreath 04/22/2013

Sunday afternoon in their game versus the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Playoffs, the LA Lakers ran this Elbow Flex action to get a dunk for Dwight Howard. This elbow set-up into a flex action is very common in the NBA. However, I have rarely (if never) seen the 1 set the backscreen instead of coming off the pin down for a shot or dribble hand-off. Basketball Play - 1 Baseline Double

1 Baseline Double

Kyle Gilreath 03/28/2014

Frequenting their baseline series all game, Florida head coach Billy Donovan ran this tweak to the set adding in a double side pick & roll. This line-up for Florida is extremely versatile because they essentially have three point guards on the floor, one being 6'8" (4) Dorian Finney-Smith, in addition to (2) Hill and 1 (Wilbekin). As 1 (Wilbekin) came off the double pick & roll he had multiple options of attack: 1. Attack the rim or pull-up 2. Drop down pass to Young (5) rolling. 3. 2 and 3 spotting up on the weak side wing 4. Throwback to versatile (4) Finney-Smith who can catch & shoot or attack the rim See More

Basketball Play - Flat

Flat

Kyle Gilreath 05/29/2013

This is a baseline out of bounds play that I ran for my Junior Varsity squad this past season. I initially drew it up figuring it would work well versus man defense. However, as the season progressed, I found that this play worked almost every time against a zone (especially 2-3) zone. It takes some time to teach younger players how to screen in different situations but my 5's become great at sealing under the rim and almost always resulted in a lay-up. See More

Basketball Play - Duke High Overload PNR

Duke High Overload PNR

Wes Kosel 04/10/2015

In this play, Tyus Jones attacks from left to right off of a high ball-screen with an overload on the left side of the floor. The open space puts even more pressure on Kaminsky to stop the penetration and guard the roll. Jones came off of the ball-screen as if he was going to attack the rim, but instead pulled up at the elbow using Koenig's momentum against him. See More
