About Jeff Luera

Whether I was competing in high school or in college I have always considered myself to be a student of the game of basketball. Learning about offenses and defenses was something I took pride in as an athlete, and that has only increased as I transitioned into the coaching world. I have been involved in coaching varsity and collegiate basketball for over 10 years in Florida, Tennessee, and currently in Arizona. The different styles of play I have been exposed to have not only widened my perspective on the game, but taught me different ways that teams can compete. Breaking down plays and offenses is in my blood!!

Basketball Play - Coolidge HS - Dribble Drive Action

Coolidge HS - Dribble Drive Action

Jeff Luera 11/27/2022

This a great set for dribble drive offense that provides a different angle to just attacking off the bounce. 1. The point guard passes to the 5. 2. All at the same time, the 2 goes through to the opposite side off a screen from the 4, and the point guard replaces the 2 on the wing. 3. The 5 performs a dribble handoff to the 3 and then turns the corner to attack or kick out to the point guard. 4. The point guard on the strong side wing then has the whole floor to attack with options of either finishing, kicking out to a shooter, or dumping it off to a big. Check out the video clip below! Basketball Play - Scottsdale Prep - 14 BLOB

Scottsdale Prep - 14 BLOB

Jeff Luera 11/20/2022

This is a great play to get a wide open corner three, a mismatch in the post, or some pick and roll action. The 5 flares out and recieves the pass from inbounder. The 4 sets a screen for the inbounder who flashes out to the corner. Option #1 is a wide open 3 from the inbounder (2). Option #2 is the 4. After screening for 2, 4 turns and seals on the strong side block. If no options are there the 5 swings to the ball to the point guard and sprints to set an on ball screen. The point guard has many different options coming off of that ball screen to the opposite side of the floor. This is an extremely simple, but very effective BLOB play that provides a variety of actions to score! See More

Basketball Play - Lincoln Prep - 2-3 Zone Quick Hitter

Lincoln Prep - 2-3 Zone Quick Hitter

Jeff Luera 10/29/2022

This is a simple and effective zone quick hitter against a 2-3 defense. This play can be used at any time during the game. This simple play does a great job of getting the 2-3 zone out of position for a wide open three or a baseline drive. The 1 passes the ball to 2 and clears out to the weak side corner The 4 comes up and sets a screen on the strong side defender on the ball. The 2 attacks hard off this ball screen and MUST freeze the opposite defender of the 2-3 zone at the top and will kick out to the weak side wing (3). The 3 quickly swings the ball to the corner for a wide open shot or dribble drive into the middle of the defense. This play is simple but you can play with your positions to get exactly what you want out of this play! See More

Basketball Play - 1-4 High Game Winner

1-4 High Game Winner

Jeff Luera 10/21/2022

This play is great for late game situations. It can be used for a 2 or 3pt field goal, but has great read options for both. The set is built out of a 1-4 High set with the primary ball handler starting on the wing, the shooter bringing the ball up and primary post on the weak side of the floor. The 2 will enter the ball into the 4 at the high post. The 4 will perform a dribble handoff with the 1 on the strong side wing, while the 2 uses a flare screen out to the weak side wing. The 3 will clear out to the opposite corner. The 1 will pass the ball to the 2 off the flare screen and option 1 is the wide open 3pt jumper. The 5 will then roll to the rim after the flare screen and be ready for the dump off finish, which is the second option. This is an awesome end of game situation that uses a high level shooting threat as a distraction for a point blank layup at the rim. See More
