About This Play/Drill

This drill is just an extension of the Rim Finishes Drill I posted earlier today. This is a great series of moves that every player should add to their arsenal to work on to perfect. The ability to change direction and finish around the rim are key elements for players who want to play basketball at a high level.

When I performed this drill I had each player make each finish 3 times before moving onto the next move. You can adjust this accordingly as you see fit.

  • Start the players on the wing. Player 1st jabs at the rim to get the defender to back up, the jabs baseline to get the defender on the bottom side. Player then takes 1 hard dribbles and attacks the rim (between two cones) receiving contact from a pad just before reaching the take-off point of cones.

    Finishes (Make 3):

    -Floater

  • Same jab footwork as Frame 1.

Attack the cones and spin off the coach/manager with pad and finish with a lefty hook (Mix up using/not using the backboard).

  • Same jab footwork as Frame 1.

Attack the cones, spin, then make an up & under move through contact from a pad.

  • Same jab footwork as Frame 1.

Attack the cones, and do a fake spin/show your shoulder move and come back from a righty hook over the middle.

  • Going baseline you will jab at the rim first, then jab at the top of the key second to get your defender topside before attacking baseline.

Finish with righty hooks off 1 and 2 feet.

  • Same jab footwork as Frame 5.

Finish with up & under move.

  • Same jab footwork as Frame 5.

Finish with a fake spin/show your shoulder move and finish left hand.
