About This Play/Drill

The Spurs ran a set similar to this for Manu Ginobili in the 2013 NBA Finals. 3, 4, and 5 need to get out of the paint to set their screens if the first entry has any chance of being open, and 2 needs to bring his defender low enough that 3's defender has to pay attention to him--that will open up the best scoring opportunity that the action offers, which is 3 at the top of the key.

  • 1) 1 dribbles to the wing and sends 3 through to the weak block. 3, 4, and 5 set a triple stagger screen for 2. 2 cuts off 4's shoulder and looks to catch in the paint.

  • 2) As soon as 2 comes off 4's shoulder, 3 circles through off 4 and 5. 1 looks to hit 3 at the top of the key.
