Favorite Send to FastDraw#1 and #2 skip the ball to each other x1 and x2 move on the flight of the ball, closing out to their man and sprinting to the helpline After several passes, the next player in line subs in on the fly with the defensive player on his side of the court and verbalizes the switch This action repeats throughout the duration of the drill See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a good drill for players to work on getting open away from the ball. The defensive player must also work very hard to prevent 1 from making an easy catch. The passer must also work at delivering the pass on time and on target. You can play to a set score or a set number of stops. We will move spots on the floor to increase the difficulty for the offense or defense See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis version of the Iba Drill is designed for perimeter players to take charges, dive on the floor after loose balls, and score on drives to the basket against contact. Favorite Send to FastDrawFollowing drill was a part of a skill packet we mailed out to coaches when I was at the University of Florida. Yesterday I posted phase 1 of the build up with the 2-on-1. A 2nd defender is added whose main job is to spring back down the floor and get back into the play. Start with the same set-up as you did in the 2-on-1 drill, but place the 2nd defender under the rim. The 2nd defender’s goal is to get to the inside track of the player opposite of the ball. Just like in the 2-on-1 drill, the offensive players are trying to attack the rim to score, remaining 2-3 feet outside of the lane. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawFollowing drill was a part of a skill packet we mailed out to coaches when I was at the University of Florida. Two offensive players start 2-3 feet outside of the lane along the baseline. Start the defensive player at the free-throw line. Drill starts with a coach holding a ball around the free-throw line area, and passing it to one of the offensive players. Once the ball is passed, the defensive player should immediately turn and sprint to half-court and get down in a defensive stance with active hands. The offensive players should remain 2-3 feet outside of the lane as they attack the other end. They should not be too wide, so the defense can recover, and not be too close, so the defense is able to cover both players. The offensive player with the ball should not pass the ball until the defense totally commits to him (bounce pass for lay-up). If the defense does not commit, shoot a lay-up. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis roll closeout drill takes place in tight quarters and allows for a challenge at the rim. The Robert Morris MBB staff emphasized contact/collisions when putting this drill on the floor at their Elite Camp (June 21st, 2008). See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIf you're like me, you HATE the traditional three-man weave drill because players don't take it serious, players make bad passes, players travel during the drill and players shoot uncontested lay-ups (which rarely happens in games). Here's two great variations of the three-man weave that are actually game-like and will get your players better! Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is another drill that I got from watching Bellarmine University practice last week. This is a great drill because it not only works on scramble situations having 4 players defend 5 in the half-court, but it also forces the offense (new defense) to sprint back after change of possession to prevent any easy lay-ups. After making your one transition stop after a made shot or the defense secures the rebound and repeat the drill the other way. Make sure you switch the offense and defensive teams who must scramble each time and rotate the players that are back. Do this drill for time or until a team reaches a pre-set point total. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawGreat high intensity defensive drill from Head Coach Mike Donnelly (Southern CT State University) that works on closing out multiple offensive drives. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawFrom Head Coach Mike Donnelly (Southern CT State University MBB), a great defensive drill to teach players to "wall up" and make offensive players make contested shots from close range. Emphasis on not fouling, boxing out and rebounding. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a great offensive and defensive peer pressure dril that can help your players improve their toughness. This drill is one from our coaching clinic notes series. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a great drill I got from Florida State Assistant Stan Jones at a clinic he spoke at in the Fall. Many times when you do 1-on-1 alley drills with your team the defensive player becomes not as energetic half-way through the drill. This drill takes that factor out and makes the ball-handler beat four fresh defensive players in order to score. Once 1 and X4 finish the drill continues with a X1 becoming the new offensive player and X2 becomes the first defender in line; X3 becomes the new X2, X4 becomes the new X3, and the previous offensive player is now X4.
