Basketball Play - Pick and Roll Offense: "The Other 3"

Pick and Roll Offense: "The Other 3"

Safa Kamalian 09/28/2018

During the past decade, especially after the 2006 FIBA world championship, the pick and roll offense was given a newfound level of attention. The avenues with which you can go down when discussing the pick and roll are endless (angles, spacing, player development, proper defensive technique). Here are the common options which the other three players outside of the PNR action can be involved in. There are definitely more options for the “other 3” but these are the most common approaches teams use today. See More

Basketball Play - Run Out Shooting 1v1

Run Out Shooting 1v1

Michael Shaughnessy 08/27/2018

Having players that can knock down shots is obviously a huge advantage for any team. The more players a team has that are high percentage shooters, the better that team will be on the offensive end of the floor. It's not just about making the shots when they are wide open, but also being able to make shots without being distracted by a defender attempting to run a shooter off the 3pt line. This drill is a great way to add that defensive element to make your shooting drills more game-like for players. Emphasize focus on the basket and not thinking twice with a defender closing out. Basketball Play - Player Development: 1v1 Block Finishing

Player Development: 1v1 Block Finishing

Tony Miller 07/06/2018

This multipurpose drill works on both defense and offense. Players must react quickly when the coach chooses a player to throw the ball to on either block. The player on offense must score at the basket against immediate pressure. The player on defense attempts to prevent a basket without fouling. Make the drill competitive by keeping score (defensive stops, made baskets, etc.). Click for more #PlayerDevelopmentWeek content! See More

Basketball Play - 3-on-3 Flow - Competitive Conditioning

3-on-3 Flow - Competitive Conditioning

Joel Hueser 06/16/2018

3-on-3 Flow (aka Flow Ball) is another one of our team favorites. Credit goes to @John_Leonzo for this fastbreak conditioner. We love it for a variety of reasons, but mostly for its emphasis on defensive transition and uptempo offense. We have adapted the following scoring rules: 1) Play to 15 using 2's and 3's. 2) Player who scores game winner must validate with a made freet hrow. 3) Should the player miss, team score returns to 11 and play resumes. Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavaliers - Point Flares (vs switching)

Cleveland Cavaliers - Point Flares (vs switching)

Doug Brotherton 05/22/2018

In Games 1 and 2 of the 2018 Eastern Conference Finals, the Boston Celtics got a lot of credit for their smooth switches defensively. In games 3 and 4, the Cleveland Cavaliers countered with some basic actions to pick on the switching defense. Their most effective action was their "Point Flares," with LeBron James as the passer from the middle of the floor. The corner to wing flare allows the screener to seal and cut to the rim, for a pass over the top. This set gave the Celtics fits, resulting in multiple layups for Cleveland. Basketball Play - Minnesota Gophers - Pin Down Flare PNR

Minnesota Gophers - Pin Down Flare PNR

Andy Stark 04/10/2018

This play by Richard Pitino is a great misdirection set. It really tries to test the defensive team on the backside of the flare screen coverage. If the flare screen support is too much, defenders will be late on ball screen support. This became a money play with Minnesota down the stretch. The big that sets the ball screen can also slip it. If the defensive team stunts at the ball screen too hard, it is best to have a best shooter (3) on the strong side of the ball screen (the player who just came off the flare).
