Basketball Play - Drift and Lift Series

Drift and Lift Series

John Leonzo 06/02/2016

This is part of John Leonzo's Solo Summer Shooting Workout. I recommend making no fewer than 200 shots a day, 6 days a week. Be sure to remind your players that there is no magic in the drills, in the facility, or in the coach that is with them, the magic is in the work. Improvement has a knack for following consistent work ethic and persistence. See More

Begin at half court with one basketball in a low and ready stance. The player will speed dribble to the three point line and then complete a dribble move to change hands/change direction. After the dribble move the player will push the ball out to attack the basket at the rim. There are 3 series to this drill. Do each series 1 time. See More

Basketball Play - 1-4 High Ball Screen Drag

1-4 High Ball Screen Drag

Al Baker 08/19/2013

This is a tricky play to defend--especially when teams are fighting over screens--because of the back-to-back stagger screens. If your 5 can shoot it, you may also look to him shaping up after 1 cuts off his screen, since his man may be sagging to help with the cutter. See More

Basketball Play - Scissors (dribble drive look)

Scissors (dribble drive look)

This is a common play in our area of Northwest Ohio that I'm sure is used in college and pro's. This play is great because it is designed to for a high post entry, and a "scissor" cut with 2 guards. You can get good looks for 3's off the scissor cut and double screen. This play also offers a chance to enter to the post player with a double screen and post entry, or the big can fake handoff to both players, and have a high post isolation. See More

Basketball Play - Three-Man Weave Drills

Three-Man Weave Drills

Alan Peel 09/08/2013

I have had great success in using this drill as a way to get my players warmed up and for team-building purposes. The players must make a specified number of lay-ups before moving on to the next stage (from five passes to four passes to three passes to being done). For a lay-up to be considered to be "made", the ball must not touch the floor at any time and the lay-up must be shot with the proper hand. Make absolutely sure that your players are catching the ball with their feet in the air and coming to a jump stop. This will prevent them from developing bad habits by traveling with the ball.
