Basketball Play - 1 Double Power

1 Double Power

Kyle Gilreath 03/27/2014

Syracuse ran this double pick & roll to get forward C.J. Fair posted up in an iso situation. By setting a stagger for 2, the Orange essentially cleared out any help defense for the isolation. For every play Syracuse ran during the 2013 Final Four check out my eBook, “Championship Execution”. See More

Basketball Play - Leonard Hamilton Early Offense

Leonard Hamilton Early Offense

Dana Beszczynski 01/28/2014

Leonard Hamilton has often been underappreciated for what he has accomplished during his time at Florida State. This Early Offense Set combines a number of actions to get a good shot. The Stagger action early gives their shooter a chance to get an open shot at the top of the key and the double high ball screen gives the post a chance to either get a touch inside or the misdirection leads to isolation on the weak side for the 5 Man. This is a very well designed set and the Seminoles patience to work it through shows you what can be done to execute all options. See More

Basketball Play - Loop Hi-Lo

Loop Hi-Lo

Kyle Gilreath 12/19/2013

Tuesday night in their nail biting loss to South Florida, Florida Gulf Coast ran this half-court set for a post hi-low isolation. After spending many years at Kansas under Bill Self, it is no surprise that FGCU coach Joe Dooley frequents hi-low actions. If 3 can set a solid screen the goal is for 5 to try and catch in the middle of the paint for a quick score. However, if X5 fights over top of the screen of X3 and X5 switch, 5 is to seal his man on the top side for a lob pass over the top for a finish. See More

Basketball Play - Horns Twist

Horns Twist

Kyle Gilreath 12/03/2013

Last night in their win over Oklahoma State, the Memphis Tigers ran this post iso action in the 2nd half. One small piece of this play that is very popular is sending the post passer through to the weak side. Many coaches keep their post passer strong side and this allows for an easy dig or double down which disturbs the post isolation. See More

Basketball Play - Slovenia Box 1

Slovenia Box 1

Dana Beszczynski 10/03/2013

Slovenia's focal point of their offense during this year's European Championship was Goran Dragic who plays in the NBA for the Phoenix Suns. This is a simple box set and with good reading by the 4 man before 1 cuts into the lane, he attacks the open side drawing the foul. A good isolation set for a stronger player who can post-up and take advantage of a good match-up. See More

Basketball Play - SLOB France NT

SLOB France NT

Dana Beszczynski 09/28/2013

A well designed SLOB play run by French National Team Coach Vincent Collet designed to get an isolation in the paint, off a side ball screen. Here France used the low post flash to attack the basket off the ball screen and although this situation was not successful, the play itself brings a multitude of opportunities to score off a dead ball situation. Basketball Play - Secondary Action France

Secondary Action France

Dana Beszczynski 09/25/2013

This Seconary Action run by France in the Championship Game of the European Championship against Lithuania has a lot of good movement off the ball and creates isolation situations for the post player or an opportunity for a 3 pt shot France with their NBA standouts were very good in utilizing spacing to make such plays effective throughout the 40:00 of action Sunday. Basketball Play - Stack Double

Stack Double

Kyle Gilreath 09/13/2013

Watching Game 6 of the 2009 Eastern Conference Finals between the Orlando Magic and the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Magic ran this set to get Rashard Lewis an isolation to score. Stan Van Gundy did a great job getting Lewis isolated on the wing with this action because on the drive if any help rotated he had Turkoglu, Lee, and Austin to kick out to for a shot. See More

Basketball Play - Granger Sts Iso

Granger Sts Iso

Adam Spinella 08/23/2013

Instead of "over-coaching" and getting difficult looks for your players at the rim, you can now relax and draw forth the following plays to get your best players in isolation at the end of a game. In isolation sets, all the work by the coach is done before the player gets the ball. From there, it's up to the superstar to make a great one-on-one play. Danny Granger hit the game winner off this isolation set, drawn up by Frank Vogel out of a Box formation. See More

Basketball Play - Scissors (dribble drive look)

Scissors (dribble drive look)

null null 08/08/2013

This is a common play in our area of Northwest Ohio that I'm sure is used in college and pro's. This play is great because it is designed to for a high post entry, and a "scissor" cut with 2 guards. You can get good looks for 3's off the scissor cut and double screen. This play also offers a chance to enter to the post player with a double screen and post entry, or the big can fake handoff to both players, and have a high post isolation. See More

Basketball Play - Slice Read Option

Slice Read Option

Adam Spinella 07/23/2013

Last season in Cleveland, Byron Scott ran this play so he could get Kyrie coming off a re-screen action and to let Dion Waiters have the chance to work in isolation at the top of the key. When the Cavs would go small and put Wayne Ellington at the 3, defenses would have a tough time chasing their shooters off the perimeter and wrestling in the post against Thompson and Speights.
