Basketball Play - Colorado Ball Screen Motion Post Action

Colorado Ball Screen Motion Post Action

Dana Beszczynski 01/06/2014

Colorado under Head Coach Thad Boyle have gone 79-39 over the last three years. Boyle is now in his 4th season. The Buffs are now up to number 20 in the latest poll before the start of Conference Season against Oregon State. This is a nice play out of their Ball Screen Motion as coming off the SPNR, the wing reads the defense running into the lane to set a cross screen freeing up the post for a pass down low from the top. Spencer Dinwiddie and Askia Booker are two exciting high profile players to watch this year in PAC 12 play for Colorado!! See More

Last night in their win over the Kansas Jayhawks, the Florida Gators ran this half-court set which involved multiple screening actions leading to a middle pick & roll. As 1 came off the pick & roll he was able to find 3 spotting up in the corner. Due to the defensive rotations, this allowed 5 to post-up on the block. See More

The Florida Gators do a very good job running their half court Ball Screen Motion offense. With good screening angles, strong basket cuts, and good spacing for kick-out passes, the Gators are able too breakdown defenses with their quickness on the perimeter and the strength of their inside game. Coach Donovan does a good job adjusting his sets during the course of the game giving his team the best chance to get high percentage shots from their half court offenses. See More

John Calipari's Kentucky Wildcats ran this motion action during the 2013 Final Four. This is a great set that creates movement and ends with a side pick & roll after a quick pin-down. If 2 can turn the corner and beat X4 there is limited help to the rim; the only option being X5 which could lead to an easy pass to 5 if X3 fails to rotate down as well. Wichita State ran this action which ended with a pick & roll/replace in their Final Four matchup versus Louisville. As 1 came off the pick aggressively, the exchange by 4 and 5 allowed for an opportunity for 5 to seal his man for a lob over top. Boise State-False Motion

A great way to run some time off the clock and limit possesions is to run "false motion" boise state runs some of the best that I have seen. They were able to almost beat UNLV at UNLV while running this down the stretch into 1 of their sets. The most important teaching points for this is to cut to score, short easy passes, and stay high and wide. See More
