The premise of this drill is to mimic quick action in early offense. This will improve your screening, how your guys/girls catch and shoot and read the defense. On the flip side your defense will be able to not let cutters cut without being bumped and improve communication. We play a game to seven. There are three options to this drill outlined below. The San Antonio Spurs summer league team ran an End of Game (EOG) play to beat the Warriors at the buzzer with a lob to Jonathan Simmons. The play showed how teams could take advantage of defenses that hard hedge (when the screener’s defender steps in the path of player coming off the screen) or switch off ball screens. Kyle Anderson is tasked with inbounding the ball, in the stronger side corner is the Spurs best shooter in DeJounte Murray. His job is not to move from that spot and keep the floor spread. Bryn Forbes is in the weakside corner and it appears as if CJ Williams and Simmons are setting a double staggered for Forbes. As Forbes comes off the first screen, Simmons’ defender jumps out early to hedge on the screen and make it a difficult entry pass to Forbes. As soon as the defender hedges Simmons slips right to the basket without ever setting the screen. Anderson throws the lob but it is a little off target but Simmons uses his athleticism to catch the ball, gather himself and goes straight up to score over the defense. Even if the defense switched in this situation Simmons would have the superior position as he has a direct lane to the basket and there would be no one in between him and the ball. Ingite this set with a horns double screen. 5 dives and the 4 pops. 4 attacks and makes the x1 and x3 play him and kicks to the 3 or 5. 5 has the option to score kick out to the 2. If 3 receives the pass he can shoot, make x5 come out, attack and/or pass to 2 in the corner. See More

Quick Hitter Lob vs 2-3 Zone

The University of Virginia ran this to get a lob dunk versus a zone defense. The 2 slice cut through the lane and got the pass from 1 who quickly continued to reverse the ball to 3 on the left wing. The 3 then reverses course with the ball ultimately sending it back to the 1. The 4 and 5 on the baseline interchanged and set back screens on the bottom of the zone. The exchange made it tough for the zone to realize they were being screened and fight through. The 1 threw the ball up to 3 at the rim for the lob over the zone. See More
