Here is a Zone Lob play from Baylor when they played Georgia in the SEC/Big 12 challenge. Georgia played some 2-3 zone in the game, and Baylor used this early lob option to get a pass over the top forcing a foul on the Bulldogs. The play starts with 1 passing to 2 and 2 passing back to 1. 3 then acts as if he is running the baseline, but 4 and 5 both screen the bottom zone defenders and 1 looks to make the lob pass to 3 over the top of the zone. The 2nd ATO play run by the Cavaliers last night was out of a Box Set. Brogdon sells this play by putting up his FIST like he will down screen for Thompson and quickly changes directions cutting through the elevator screen set by Gill & and Wilkins. Perrantes dribbles over for a good passing angle and hits Brogdon flaring out of the elevator screen for a 3 pt shot This play was well designed and executed to perfection by Tony Bennett's Cavaliers in a pressure situation. If you are looking for a play to get you an open 3-point field goal, this play, if ran correctly, should get you a great look at the basket (with rebounders in place to keep the possession alive). As the PG passes to the 4, we like the 3 to "play with" the corner defender, try to occupy his attention as much as possible, so we can get the top ball-side defender to pick up the ball off the initial pass. After passing the ball, the PG will flash like he is making a ball-side corner cut (which is a great way to get a quick entry into the post) but instead, will fill the opposite corner. The help defender on the top will naturally sink and fall towards the mid-line. Once the PG has cleared the lane, we want our 3 to cut to the top of the key. As he is cutting, we would like to have the 5 roll over and set a screen on x1. This is all about timing! If the 3 can catch the ball right as the 5 is setting the screen, we are in business. Now, we have the defense right where we want them. As the 3 catches, he immediately attacks DOWNHILL! Do not let the 3 float/dribble outside of the lane. The goal is to get x5 to step up or x4 to step in. Either way, we have the numbers in our favor. Now, we have the options we want. If the x4 steps up, the 3 immediately needs to pass the ball (what we call a hot read) to either the 1 or the 2. If x4 stays low and x5 defends the penetration (which is what we ultimately want), the 3 needs to pass the ball to the 2. If x4 closes out hard on the 2 and he cannot get the shot, then the 2 needs to make the extra pass to the 1 in the corner (where there is no defense). The 4 and the 5 need to crash hard for the rebound. The 3 should be in position in case the shot attempt is short. See More

"The Swing is a four-out patterned offense with continuity. All five players are interchangeable, and spacing, screening, cutting and accurate passing are vital. All five players have opportunities to post up inside, and the Badgers often invert their offense and post guards. The offense is deliberate (Wisconsin ranks 333rd out of 351 in the nation in adjusted tempo), often with multiple passes and places value on each possession with high percentage inside shots, or free-throws. This play can be used as a man or zone set. We saw this used against our zone defense this past season. The play starts with 1 passing to 5 then cutting off of a screen from 3 in the lane. 3 leaves the wing by rubbing off of a screen from 2. 5 passes to 2, then screens down for 3. The hope is that against a zone defense the top zone defender is preoccupied with 2 leaving a two on one situation at the top of the key. See More

Wall passes to Gortat stepping out from the elbow. Once Gortat has the ball, Pierce makes a back-cut. If Pierce isn't open, Wall cuts between Gortat and Nene looking for a pass or hand-off from Gortat. Nene sets a screen for Beal who cuts around Gortat looking to get a hand-off. If Beal isn't open, he pops out to the wing. Wall and Pierce set a double screen for Nene who cuts to the opposite low post. Gorat looks for Nene on the cut. If he isn't open, Gortat passes to Beal on the wing and Pierce pops out to the opposite wing. After passing to Beal, Gortat screens down for Wall. Wall cuts to the top of the key for a shot. The play starts by the point guard passing a guard on the right-wing. The guarded player then goes to opposite elbow area while a pass to the corner is designed to bring the bottom player of the zone out away from the block. After passing to the corner the guard cuts hard looking for a quick give and go and one the point guards catch screens the weak side of the zone bringing the 4 man right into the gut of the zone for a quick pass. After setting a screen the guard will then receive a screen by the post player creating some misdirection and difficulty for the defense. See More

The play starts in a 1-4 high with 1 passing to 3 on the wing and 2 cutting to the opposite corner. 1 screens down for 5 then pops out to the right wing. 3 passes to 5 who reversed the ball to 1. 4 screens for 3 who cuts into the lane and then turns around to quickly screen for 4. 1 looks to pass to 4 cutting to the rim. Instead of point guard passing to the wing, he passes to trailing big who reverses to opposite wing, on this reversal the first big man in the post follows the ball. After, both the point guard and big set a double stagger screen for the guard on opposite wing, coming to look for a shot. If no shot is there, then it flows into Horns and they have multiple options out of this, they can go into a double screen, a pindown into a dribble hand off and multiple flex options off of it. With this typically you will see the point guard coming up the floor holding up his bicep and flexing, hence the "Strong." See More

Motion Weak, it starts with the point guard passing to the wing and cutting through the lane to the opposite wing. The ball is reversed through the trailing big, and the weakside guard cuts into the lane to set a cross screen for the first big man down the floor. After the reversal, the post can come off the cross screen or fake and come up the lane off a 2/5 stagger. See More
