Basketball Play - Regular

Regular

John Leonzo 06/01/2013

Here is a set play that was run often by the Pitt Panthers over the course of this last college basketball season. This play starts off with a basic flex action and then develops into a back screen for a lob opportunity and then finishes with a screen the screener action to get an open three. This play is great because the ball is changing sides of the floor, you have action going to the basket and away from the basket, and also flows right out of transition. See More

Basketball Play - Post Continuity Offense "Tight"

Post Continuity Offense "Tight"

Matt Hackenberg 05/02/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a continuity offense to play through the post. This is an old school offense featuring lots of post up opportunities and high/low looks. If you like simple concepts and want to play through the post, this is a good option. Here is the breakdown drill to work on this concept in practice. Basketball Play - Box Curl STS BLOB

Box Curl STS BLOB

Matt Hackenberg 02/17/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a BLOB out of a box alignment. I think this action is pretty sneaky. The hard curl tends to get a lot of attention without even being a primary option, freeing the shooter to slip to the corner. Basketball Play - Horns: Push Slice STS

Horns: Push Slice STS

Matt Hackenberg 12/25/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a set out of a horns alignment. The set wants the defense to help on the screen in the paint, so that they are late getting through the screen-the-screener action. Against switching defenses, 5 wants to screen their own defender to free up the shooter. Video below. Basketball Play - Swing STS SLOB

Swing STS SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/15/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a SLOB to get into some screen-the-screener (STS) action. I like the action overall, but I'm not sure how much is added by swinging the ball and running the inbounder all the way across the play. Video below. Basketball Play - 1-2-2 Flex Offense Entry

1-2-2 Flex Offense Entry

Matt Hackenberg 12/07/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we are looking at an entry into the flex offense. This is a methodical continuity set, aimed at getting the defense to slip up on defending screens off the ball. I like all the cutting, screening and movement. I think it limits penetration opportunities to a certain extent, and makes your players a bit robotic running the pattern. But time has proven, the flex offense can be very effective, especially at the high school level. Basketball Play - Slice Stagger Continuity

Slice Stagger Continuity

Matt Hackenberg 12/07/2021

This action in the diagram and embedded video uses a hard curl on a slice screen to try to put pressure on the defense. If the screen is solid and the cut hard, it sets up a stagger screen very well. Basketball Play - Box BS Throwback STS

Box BS Throwback STS

Matt Hackenberg 12/01/2021

It's always nice to have some sets up your sleeve to get your high level shooter a look from the outside when you need it. This set can be one of those play calls. Against teams that get through screens, it should work well as long as the shooter sets a great back screen. Against teams that switch, it's important that the last screener seal their own defender to free up the shooter. Video clip below. Basketball Play - CSKA Moscow - STS Clear Out BLOB

CSKA Moscow - STS Clear Out BLOB

Kostas Kalogeropoulos 07/26/2019

Simple and effective BLOB ean by CSKA Moscow head coach Dimitris Itoudis during the 2018-19 EuroLeague season. After getting open at the wing through a screen from 5, 2 waits until 1 clears out, faking going to take the ball after 5's screen. Then the lane is cleared for 2 to attack the basket (left hand drive). Blog Posts: EuroLeague BLOBs and SLOBs CSKA Moscow - Early Offense Breakdown See More
