Basketball Play - UIC BLOB Screen-Screener

UIC BLOB Screen-Screener

Kevin Bruinsma 01/24/2015

After Depaul hit the 3 to put them ahead over UIC the Flames had a chance to respond for the win. With the ball out of bounds underneath the Depaul basket, UIC took a timeout and diagramed a screen the screener play with 1.8 seconds on the clock. The play got UIC a wide open three from the ball side wing for the win. With such a short clock the Depaul defenders were caught between switching and trailing their own guys. The key to this entire action is the sharp jab step taken towards the rim, and then the screen for the man cutting right to the rim. That put Depaul’s defense in catch-up mode. See More

Basketball Play - Zipper Hook

The New Orleans Pelicans ran this play several nights ago to get Anthony Davis (5) screened into a spread pick & roll. Most NBA teams run this action with a single (or sometimes double as pictured) weakside pin-down for a catch & shoot at the elbow/slot area. I really like how the Pelicans turned this action into a screen the screener for Davis. The staggers, along with spacing Ryan Anderson (3) wide, caused the coverage on the pick & roll to be late and eliminating any help defenders in the paint for a easy pick & roll dunk. See More

Side Need 3

After a furious comeback in the 4th quarter last night, the Chicago Bulls ran this sideline out-of-bounds play with 1.5 seconds remaining to beat the Atlanta Hawks in Pre-Season action. In typical fashion of any great Need play, Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau drew up a screen the screener action to create enough space and allow the catch & shoot for Butler before the defense could recover. Down 3 at the end of Game 5 of the 2014 EC Semi-Finals, Jason Kidd drew up this sideline out-of-bounds play for the Brooklyn Nets. This was a great action which incorporated multiple screen the screener actions. However, Johnson (4) was unable to get a shot off as Miami deflected the ball out of bounds on the catch. See More

In Game 7 of the 2014 NBA Playoffs, the Toronto Raptors ran this action for a screen the screener pick & roll. Depending on defensive coverages, this play opens up multiple scoring options for your team. In this play, X4 showed as 4 slipped making the throwback to 4 at the top of the key the available option. Basketball Play - Rhody Back

Rhody Back

Kyle Gilreath 01/07/2014

Rhody back is another simple yet very effective screen the screener post-up play to run after using a rhody cut. In the play below, have 1 delay his dribble to the wing until 2 almost reaches the point of the screen from 4. This will occupy X4 for a second before being hit with the backscreen. If X3 and X4 do a poor job communicating on the backscreen and overload to the post, 3 will be open after the pin down from 5. See More
