Basketball Play - Horns Flex Zipper Weave

Horns Flex Zipper Weave

Evan Orzolek 06/10/2017

Common ball screen set run by Ratiopharm Ulm who won the Germany-BBL regular season title. The set starts in a horns alignment and includes a flex screen, zipper screen, and dribble weave action into the spread pick and roll. Many teams in Europe will commoly have different entries that eventually flow into the spread pick and roll to create confusion amongst the defense. The defense must defend mutiple different actions with this spread pick and roll entry and will have to properly communicate in order to properly defend the dribble weave ball screen. See More

Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavs - Post Hammer Split

Cleveland Cavs - Post Hammer Split

Matt Wheeler 06/05/2017

The Cleveland Cavs ran this play in the 3rd quarter of Game 2 of the NBA Finals. Though they weren't successful in the execution, this play provides a few opportunities for open shots. After 4 receives the ball in the post, 2 sets a hammer screen for 3 cutting to the corner for the first option. If 4 sees this option open he can drive baseline to make the pass to 3. The secondary option is 5 setting the split screen for 1. In this play, the warriors switched the screen and 5 cut to the basket for a layup. See More

Basketball Play - Lob Sets - Iverson Down Flop

Lob Sets - Iverson Down Flop

Doug Brotherton 05/22/2017

"Iverson Down Flop" is a lob set, which is dependent on the ability of the passer to read the down screen. We use the term "FLOP," to replace FAKE. The play has an Iverson cut, followed by a "FLOP" or "FAKE" down screen. If X5 stays in the lane, the 2 should curl the down screen. This will result in a 2-on-1 at the rim. See More

Basketball Play - Ball Screen Sets - Iverson STS Flare

Ball Screen Sets - Iverson STS Flare

Doug Brotherton 05/04/2017

"Iverson STS Flare" is one of my favorite ball screen sets, due to the multiple actions that occur around the ball screen. The Iverson Cut initiates the set, which is followed by a screen-the-ballscreener action. To really challenge the defense, there is a weak side flare screen, and a back screen for the ball screener. If read properly, this set is incredibly hard to defend. See More

Basketball Play - Ball Screen Sets - Stack 52

Ball Screen Sets - Stack 52

Doug Brotherton 04/29/2017

"Stack 52" is a counter to the "Stack 25," which challenges a defense in a high pick and roll situation. Instead of rolling after the high ball screen, the 5 goes into a pin down for the 2. The point guard can look to turn the corner, or read the secondary action. This is another great option in a late clock situation. See More
