Basketball Play - Hampton BLOB Circle Down

Hampton BLOB Circle Down

Wes Kosel 03/18/2015

Coach Joyner used this play against Manhattan on Tuesday night. Since the Jaspers pressed and zoned so much, it was rare that we got to see some man actions from the Pirates. Also, it was rare to see offense ran past the initial actions by either team due to the fast paced nature of both teams. On some dead ball situations and out-of-bounds plays, Manhattan matched up man to man. In this baseline out-of-bounds play, Hampton uses a misdirection by the 4 man to leave the ball-side corner open for 3 to cut to. If open, 3 will take the shot in the corner. If he isn't open, 3 dribbles towards the middle of the floor as 4 starts his sequence of down screens. The first down screen is set for 1 on the opposite wing. Again, 1 will take the shot if open off of the screen. If 1 isn't open, he looks to pass to 2 cutting off of the second down screen from 4. See More

Basketball Play - Heat Iverson Misdirection

Heat Iverson Misdirection

Kevin Bruinsma 06/25/2013

The Miami Heat ran this play to get Lebron James running off an Iverson Cut. Wade who is the 2 man follows James' Iverson cut and dribbles the ball to the top of the key. Miami uses James star power as a mis-direction and as Wade dribbles to the top following James the 5 man sets a cross screen in the lane for Chris Bosh who just got done screening for James on the Iverson cut. Wade turns back and passes to Bosh popping to the cleared out side. See More

Basketball Play - Reno Big Horns Back Screen Spread

Reno Big Horns Back Screen Spread

Wes Kosel 04/08/2015

The play starts in a 2-guard front with all five players above the free-throw line. With a reversal of the ball and a cut from 3 to the left corner, the team creates an overload on the left side which opens up the initial back-cut and lob option to 4. If 4 isn't open, he clears out as 5 dribbles across the floor looking to pass to 1 cutting to the basket. David Stockton has had success making the back-cut on this play. See More

Basketball Play - Wheel

Wheel

Brandon Mullis 06/14/2015

This "wheel" play is a set I got from scouting an opponent a few seasons ago. Stagger screens and screen for the screener action can be difficult to guard, especially if you have guys who can shoot well from outside. See More

Play of the Day 12-12-2011: Beast 5

FastModel Sports 12/12/2011

5 starts in high post and gets a back screen from 2. 2 fills out to perimeter. 1 looks to feed 5 in the post, sealing defender as deep as possible, or passes to 3. If 3 catches, 5 ducks into the paint looking for the ball. 3 hits 5 or passes to 2. 2 looks to feed 5 inside or swings it to 4. 4 looks to feed 5 in post or swings back to 2 4 cuts across baseline trying to loosen 5's defender for the post feed from 2. Basketball Play - Play of the Day 01-08-2012: Rub

Play of the Day 01-08-2012: Rub

FastModel Sports 01/08/2012

4 runs in front of 1, trying to get in the way of 1's defender. This works best if both are going hard. 1's first look is for penetration to the rim or kick out to 3 if defender helps. If 1 kicks out to 3. 4 continues down to screen for 5. They use screening action rules (one to ball one to basket). Here 5 curls to block and 4 pops back to the ball. 4 catches at top of key and has the option of passing to the strong side or the weakside (may also look high - low). Here 4 passes to the strong side and screens "down" for 2. On all "down" actions the wing has three choices: a) curl b) back cut c) post. Here 4 passes to the weakside and screens away. Once again we have the rules that cover screening: one to the ball and one to the basket. See More

Basketball Play - Shocker Zone Lob

Shocker Zone Lob

Wes Kosel 04/07/2015

Here is a quick zone hitter from Wichita State used to create an open lob. The play starts with a ball reversal and a pass to 4 in the corner. Once 4 gets the ball, 5 steps to the short corner looking for a shot. If 5 isn't open, 4 dribbles up to the wing bringing the zone defender up with him. 4 then passes to 2. At that time, 3 flashes to the high post taking the attention of the zone defenders. 2 quickly passes to 1 as 5 slips behind the zone defenders to set a back-screen for 4. 1 looks to make the lob pass over the top of the defense to 4 for a dunk.
