Basketball Play - Double High vs. 2-3 Zone

Double High vs. 2-3 Zone

Kevin Noon 12/31/2014

This play can be used a quick hitter against the zone, in transtion or as a primary entry to a 4-out/1-in zone offense. It is great to get the ball in the lane and collapse the defense. The main job of the two big men is to set a solid screen, especially the second screener. The main role of the driving guard is to draw the help defense. 1 picks a side of the court to take the ball. 4 & 5 screen the two top guards. As 1 comes off screen, he hits 2. 2 catches the ball, rips and drives looking to draw x4 and have x5 step up. 4 pops and spaces, 5 rolls looking to draw x2 and x5. If 2 draws x4 then 3 will be open in the corner. If 2 draws x5 then 5 will be open for the dump off. If 2 draws x4 and x5 and then x3 will be forced to cover 5, then 4 will be open for the skip. Basketball Play - Up Weakside

Up Weakside

Kyle Gilreath 03/13/2014

This play has multiple scoring options from beginning to end. As 2 comes off the hand-off he can look to score or feed 5 ducking in hard in the middle of the lane. The other two options are 1 coming off the pin-down and 3 slipping to the rim after screening for 1. 4 is also a possible throwback option for a shot. See More

Dana Beszczynski 11/22/2013

VCU BLOB Stagger vs M2M This is a well designed play run by VCU on the BLOB Guest 23 (C) & Shannon 4 (PF) set a double stagger screen for Johnson 32 (SF) who comes off the screens looking to catch & shoot Shannon 4 (PF) pushes into Guest 23 (C) man as he cuts over the screen either looking for the quick hit off the inbounds pass or an entry pass from Johson 32 (SF) if no shot is available See More

Basketball Play - Louisville Lob

Louisville Lob

Scott Creighton 04/12/2013

Louisville ran this play throughout the tournament, but executed it to perfection in the second half of the NCAA Championship vs. Michigan. Siva takes advantage of a great back screen by Dieng and Hancock delivers the perfect lob. Even though it it shown in transition phase here, it can also be effective if run from a 1-4 high or box set. See More

Basketball Play - Shadow

Shadow

Justin Scanson 12/22/2014

Great pressbreaker to use against a relentless faceguarding press. The key is for the 4 to be able to make good, quick decisions. Touchdown pass over the defense to 2 cutting up the court will be available early. 5 can stay and set an open court screen for 2, but I think it works better to send 5 as soon as action starts. Basketball Play - New York's staggered triple screen

New York's staggered triple screen

Mark Travis 03/11/2013

Aside from having an extremely talented offensive player like Carmelo Anthony, the biggest reason that the Knicks rank third in the NBA in scoring efficiency is the beautiftul playbook that Mike Woodson has assembled. Granted, a lot of the stuff the Knicks run today comes straight out of Mike D'Antoni's scheme - in fact, I think New York runs more of D'Antoni's stuff than the Lakers do - but Woodson deserves a ton of credit for how he has handled the offense this season. Here is a play that New York occasionally runs in semi-transition or in the half-court. It is a high staggered triple screen that takes advantage of New York's staple offensively: a stretch four. Usually, that player is Carmelo, but in this particular example, with Melo out with an injury, Steve Novak assumes the role of a stretch four. The staggered triple screen action has a pair of pick-and-pops and a pick-and-roll to cap it off that can send the defense scrambling to find their assignments and put them in a poor position to defend in the case of a mismatch or good ball rotation. When the Knicks ran it against the Cavs a couple of days ago, Cleveland got all out of place following Novak at the three-point line and left Amare wide open on the roll for an easy dunk. See More

Base 1, Base 2, Base 3

Randall Edens 08/19/2013

This is my 3rd set of BLOB plays...this time a Baseline Series. We like to go with 1 specific set up unique to each season and to disguise a handful of sets in the same set up. So far I have shared a "Shapes" Series and a "Letter's" Series. Hopefully these with small adaptations to your personnel and use vs. Man or Zone can help win the "Special Situations" portion of each game for you. See More

Basketball Play - C2E Lateral Slide/Sprint/Slide..Grab/Dribble/Shoot Drill

C2E Lateral Slide/Sprint/Slide..Grab/Dribble/Shoot Drill

Rick Allison 12/31/2014

This is a drill for improving quickness and agility in defensive lateral acceleration/deceleration, in combination with sprint dribbling into a pullup jumpshot. It is intended to emphasize game speed movements while incorporating an anaerobic conditioning element. With the addition of one or two change of the direction components to the attack dribble sequence, game speed ball handling may be added to the work load. See More

Basketball Play - Mover Blocker (LANE-WIDE)

Mover Blocker (LANE-WIDE)

Randy Sherman 03/05/2015

In the lane-wide alignment of the Mover Blocker offense, there is one lane screener just as in lane-lane. There is a wide screener that can screen from midline to sideline on his/her side of the floor. It is a good way to add spacing to the offense, utilize a skilled forward and add more variety to the screening options Rules: Lane Blocker must remain on his/her side of the floor and screen for movers ONLY along the lane line. Wide Blocker can set up inside or outside and can screen from midline to sideline on their side of the court. They should screen and separate and play outside the three-point line. Movers pass and cut and maintain top-side-side alignment while using screens from the blockers. READ the defense, curl, back cut and out cut depending on how the defense covers the screening action This is not a patterned offense! Players play within the rules and concepts. In the video below, #11 Evan Nolte is the "wide" screener. See More

Basketball Play - Gamecock Spread

Gamecock Spread

Adam Spinella 09/13/2013

Frank Martin and the South Carolina Gamecocks use this basic motion format at times as part of their "Spread" attack. The Gamecocks usually play with four guards under Martin, although the motion sets itself okay if the 4 is also a big man. The idea of the offense isn't to penetrate the defense through dribbling, but through getting an overload on one side in order to clear the opposite for a two-man game. See More

Basketball Play - NBA Play of the Day June 8 : MIami Heat Horns Down 25

NBA Play of the Day June 8 : MIami Heat Horns Down 25

Daniel Murphy 06/08/2013

Miami opened the 3rd quarter of their game 5 win over the Pacers with this elbow set. Utilizing down screens, hand offs, and ball screens Miami was able to open up driving lanes. The Pacers won the 1st and 4th quarter and tied the 2nd quarter but lost the 3rd quarter by 17 points. The Heat player movement, ball movement, shot making and offensive execution was excellent in this 30 point 3rd quarter. See More

Basketball Play - High Post Clear

High Post Clear

Randy Brown 06/14/2013

This clear out play can be used to score quickly in three ways. One, as 3 and 5 clear to the right side, 4 catches at elbow and drives left to open side to score. Second option is hand off from 4-1 for penetration by 1. If 4 fakes the hand off, 3 comes out of th corner using screens from 2 and 5. Give it a try! See More

Basketball Play - Double Flare to Ball Screen

Double Flare to Ball Screen

Daniel Murphy 04/29/2013

Opening play from the first game of OKC/Houston, 4/21/13, which OKC won 120-91. This play starts with misdirection, running the teams most potent scorer off of a double flare screen. The two bigs then rescreen for the best driver on the team. A shooter spaces in the weakside corner to stretch the floor. See More

Basketball Play - Stagger to Post Action

Stagger to Post Action

Dana Beszczynski 09/29/2013

Lithuania Coach Kazlauskas has a lot of experence in Europe and his offesive schemes incorporate a lot of ball movement and screening actions. Here is a tremendous set play run against France in the European Championship Final designed to isolate their strong 3 man, but when the play breaks down, the flat screen is used to isolate the PG for either a shot or penetration See More

Basketball Play - POB DOUBLE DOWN

POB DOUBLE DOWN

Michael Bowden 11/15/2012

Even though sideline out of bounds plays are more frequent at the NBA level compared to the college and high school ranks, I believe you can add this quick hitter set to get you a bucket. The San Antonio Spurs run their sets to perfection and this SLOB POB Double Up is no exception. If you run this and it gets scouted, I have included a screen the screener option to keep the defense honest and get your best shooter a shot. I hope you enjoy. See More
