Basketball Play - 1-4 High - High Post Entry with Hand Off & Counters

1-4 High - High Post Entry with Hand Off & Counters

Basketball HQ 11/05/2012

Point guard must take his man away from the hand off and the cut hard to get the hand off. If nothing is there just play out of the offense. A bad defender will relax once his man gives up the ball. This basketball play is designed to take advantage of this by having the PG receive a hand off from the high post. If the hand off is not there then the point guard simply cuts through and you are in your offense. Don’t be a robot and be ready to play out of the hand off. This play is from the 2001-2012 Georgia Southern season. See More

Basketball Play - Horns Get

Horns Get

Kyle Gilreath 01/24/2014

The Oklahoma City Thunder ran this quick pick & roll pin-down action this week to get Serge Ibaka a quick catch & shoot mid-range jumper. Kevin Durant has been on a scoring tear lately, making this play tougher to guard. As KD used the pick & roll, X5 was forced to help to prevent the pull-up or rim attack. This forced X4 to sit on the screen longer than normal to prevent Perkins from rolling wide-open to the rim. This allowed for the open shot for Ibaka. See More

Basketball Play - X Corner

X Corner

Kyle Brown 03/18/2013

A great blob action against a zone. Timing is really important and the read for the inbounder should be X4 in the diagrams. If X4 goes with the 2 then 5 will be open, if X4 stays in then 2 should be open. 5 has to work to Post hard on X5 and keep him occupied. See More

Daniel Murphy 08/09/2013

Run by the LA Sparks in their 74-72 victory over the CT Sun 8/6/2013. Horns set with misdirection screens that ends with a PG setting a ball screen in the middle of the floor for a 4 who can handle. Having a 1 guard the screener and 4 guard the ball handler takes players out of their natural coverage. See More

Yo-Yo Post Set

Randy Brown 03/07/2013

This popular play will produce baskets by getting the ball inside to your best post scorer. The spacing on this play is excellent as 4 and 5 execute the Yo-Yo action using down screen and back screen. Use this as a quick hitter or ATO for post score. See More

Basketball Play - 13 Quick Again

13 Quick Again

Kyle Gilreath 10/22/2013

Friday night in between watching ESPNU Midnight Madness and the UCF-Louisville football game, I flipped over to the Chicago Bulls game. Tom Thibodeau runs some great offensive sets and Friday night he allowed me to add one more play to my library. The Bulls ran this play with pure perfection and timing. 1 also has the option to throwback to 3 coming off the screen from 5. See More

Basketball Play - 51 Special

51 Special

Kyle Gilreath 03/08/2013

Missing their leading scorer in Carmelo Anthony, the New York Knicks went to a small line-up Thursday night in their game vs the Oklahome City Thunder. Late in the 2nd Half the Knicks ran this pick & roll action to force the defense to sink in to guard the ballscreen action which opened up some shooters on the perimeter. See More

Basketball Play - CSKA Moscow - High Ball Screen & Backscreen

CSKA Moscow - High Ball Screen & Backscreen

Jens Hakanowitz 05/14/2014

During the 2013/2014 Euroleague season, CSKA Moscow ran this high ball screen play with the special of setting a backscreen on the screener defender. This play is designed to have your two best pick and roll players running a high ball screen. The backscreen action workes against most pick and roll defenses (an exeption is the hard hedge and trap) and opens up multiple options for the offense. See More

Basketball Play - ATO Loop

ATO Loop

Kyle Gilreath 05/14/2014

In the closing seconds of their Game 5 victory over the LA Clippers (2014 WC Semi-Finals), Thunder head coach Scott Brooks drew up this BLOB which resulted in Westbrook (1) being fouled taking a 3-pointer. Only down 2 points, I was somewhat baffled when Westbrook decided not to attempt the game tying lay-up but rather dribble out and take the contested 3-pointer (which resulted in 3 points because of the foul). Basketball Play - Line Twist

Line Twist

Kyle Gilreath 04/21/2014

Yesterday's 1st round Playoffs Game 1 between the Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors was an interesting one. For the majority of the 2nd-half, the Raptors PA announcer was the shot clock as the clocks were malfunctioning on both ends of the floor. Jason Kidd drew up the play below with having 3.7 seconds in mind. However, as the Nets broke their timeout, they were informed there was only 2.7 on the shot clock (stop watch). Either way time did not end up being a factor as Pierce was able to break free for this catch & shoot to increase the Nets' lead. See More

Basketball Play - Floppy Down

Floppy Down

Kyle Gilreath 03/14/2013

Last night in the Big East Tournament the Villanova Wildcats ran this turn-down pick & roll action in their win over St Johns. Jay Wright does a great job clearing out most of the baseline help in this set but convincing the defense a side pick & roll is about to occur. The 2 (guard) also does a phenomenal job setting up the bal with a ball/step fake middle and getting his defender moving over the screen that never happened. See More

Basketball Play - Elbow Double Stack

Elbow Double Stack

Basketball HQ 10/04/2012

The double stack screeners need to set a good solid screen and the shooter needs to read if the defender is going to go under or over the screens. Having a good out of bounds plays can be the difference in a game. When you practice them make sure that you practice them full speed and talk about the different looks that the inbounder needs to make on the pass. This play is from the 2005-2006 Duke season.
