S.F. Austin High Flex/Dribble Handoff

Andrew Greer 03/20/2015

Stephen F. Austin ran this early offense almost exclusively in the first half of their Round 2 matchup with Utah. Utah switched all screens which caused issues for the Lumberjacks but they were still able to get quality shots. This early offense uses flex concepts to clear one side of the floor for a dribble handoff. Stephen F. Austin utilizes a 5 that can attack the rim off the dribble to allow for multiple options out of the set. See More

Basketball Play - Ohio State Horns-Flex

Ohio State Horns-Flex

Andrew Greer 03/19/2015

Ohio State ran this modified flex vs. VCU after setting it up with multiple possessions of their basic horns set. After using misdirection, the VCU defender is expecting a second misdirection screen but the 1 only uses one ball screen taking him to the wing. The help side defenders are also anticipating a guard attack or post dive to the paint. This action allows the ball handler and the cutter (flex) the entire side of the floor to work with. During this particular set the flex cut was covered and the ball was sent to the 2 coming off of a stagger screen. See More

Basketball Play - Ohio State Horns Basic

Ohio State Horns Basic

Andrew Greer 03/19/2015

Ohio State Horns Basic. The Buckeyes used this set early in Round 2 action vs. VCU. This simple horns action served as an entry in to more complex horns sets. The buckeyes scored multiple ways out of this in the 1st half. Easy looks for them included a 15 ft. pull up jump shot and an easy dump down to the roll man to avoid aggressive ball screen defense from the Rams. See More

As 1 dribbles middle, 5 sets a flare screen for Niang. 1 passes to Niang for a 3-point shot. See More

Basketball Play - Cyclone Drag

Cyclone Drag

Wes Kosel 03/19/2015

In this early offense play from ISU, the Cylones set a drag screen with Niang at the right lane line. The point guard dribbles to the middle off of the ball-screen as Niang rolls to the basket and the 5 man completes a "short roll" to the opposite block. Hoiberg likes to utilize this short roll instead of a roll/replace action to put both of his post players near the basket for a dump down pass. If 1 doesn't have a shot, he looks to pass off to 4, 5, or hit 3 in the corner for a 3-point shot. See More

Basketball Play - UNC Tar Heels Primary Break

UNC Tar Heels Primary Break

Randy Sherman 03/12/2015

The Primary Break is most effective when there are clearly defind roles. There is ONE outlet target. There is ONE inbounder on an opponents made FG. The three players not involved in this should SPRINT in their lanes and get to top speed within the FIRST THREE STEPS. Evaluate this on film with every rebound and made FG. Outlet tips: The outlet target gets wide with his/her butt to the sideline on the same side of the rim as the rebounder Catch the outlet high and wide and on the run If denied, sickle cut across the ball. On made FG, the designated inbounder gets ball out of net and steps out of bounds to inbound as quickly as possible. Practice this! Pass can go directly from 1 to 5 on the rim run 2 sprints to the dead corner to make the defense recover 94 feet Look to "pitch ahead" after one or two dribbles, if you can't, the point guard should "dribble through the wake" made by the recovering defense. 5 posts his man in the paint in transition!
