Basketball Play - Virginia BLOB 1-4 Low

Virginia BLOB 1-4 Low

Dana Beszczynski 11/21/2013

The University of Virginia ran this 1-4 BLOB action against VCU. With the flex screen, the play has a quick hitting action to it off the inbounds pass and the pin down screen-the-screener action gives the shooter a chance to get off an open shot if the defense miscommunicates on the flex cut Here, the PG does a good job reading the defender and gets into the lane off the dribble. Basketball Play - Nuggets Flare Hammer

Nuggets Flare Hammer

Adam Spinella 11/21/2013

The Denver Nuggets run this misdirection Hammer set to free up a shooter in the corner. The use a flare screen at the top to occupy the help defense, forcing a weak side defender to rotate towards the ball. That rotation sets up an opening in the corner for a shooter to make a cut to. See More

Basketball Play - Triangle Down

Triangle Down

Kyle Gilreath 10/24/2013

The Miami Heat ran this action versus the Pelicans Wednesday night to get Chris Anderson an easy dunk at the rim. As 1 was screening for 3, the defense became very oppupied with defending Wade (not seeing the ball). Furthermore, X2 and X5 did not communicate and both ended up on 2, leaving 5 wide open rolling to the rim with no helpside. See More

Basketball Play - High Post Entry with Fake Hand Off / Backdoor

High Post Entry with Fake Hand Off / Backdoor

Basketball HQ 10/16/2013

This play is from the 2010-2011 Houston Rockets season. This play is best for teams with a passing big. You are running this play for your best shooter or scorer and your point guard. You will need to drill with your players on how to come off a hand off, and how to have your bigs read the defense to make the fake hand off. This is a great action for teams with a point guard that will be over played on the hand off. See More

Basketball Play - Twirl Up

Twirl Up

Dana Beszczynski 10/01/2013

This is a set play we used with success in our first season. It has multiple scoring options and a lot of movement. If the timing is good, the defense has to make split second decisions which can lead to easy points either on the paint or on the perimeter. See More

Basketball Play - Davidson - Stagger

Davidson - Stagger

Adam Spinella 09/08/2013

Bob McKillop and the Davidson Men's Basketball Team run this as one option in their 4-out motion offense as a quick option out of transition. This play has the featured action of a downscreen for the big man, whom McKillop has featured frequently as a good shooter over the past few seasons. If there is a stretch shooting big man on your team, this is a nice set to get him coming off a downscreen. See More

Basketball Play - Zipper Go Back

Zipper Go Back

Adam Spinella 08/22/2013

The Dallas Mavericks used the same "curl" structure when trying to get a lob for Shawn Marion. Coaches simply run the player they want to lob off a downscreen, then have him curl back around towards the rim - and Rick Carlisle did this at the end of a preseason game. This particular of play is called "Zipper Go Back". See More

Basketball Play - Strong Back Elevator

Strong Back Elevator

Adam Spinella 07/31/2013

This is a play used last season by the Washington Wizards under coach Randy Wittman. The Wizards would try to get an open three pointer for Bradley Beal or Martell Webster, who they start in the corner out of a Horns formation. You'll see the defense pay a lot of attention to John Wall on this play as well; it's one of the few occasions he's been utilized as a screener and this is a good example of how it can be effective for the best player on a team to be the screener - it sets up openings for others. Basketball Play - Fence Curl Pop

Fence Curl Pop

Adam Spinella 07/18/2013

Fence Curl Pop comes from Rick Adelman, which he has run both in Sacramento and with the Minnesota Wolves. Adelman usually calls this play out of timeouts when he sees something in the way the defense is playing screening actions. The play is designed to get a layup for a shooting guard or an open elbow jumper for a power forward. When Kevin Love runs this play for the Wolves he steps out to the three point line, making this an extremely difficult play to defend. See More
