Among the many things the Brooklyn Nets did well in their Game 1 victory over the Toronto Raptors was this great quick hitter set dialed up by Coach Jason Kidd in the waning moments of the 2nd quarter. With 1:13 on the clock in the 2nd, the Nets were able to get a wide open lay-up (Option 1) to increase their lead to 5 points. I added in the 3rd Option to create another scoring opportunity. When we see scout, we try to simulate the opposing teams actions in our defensive breakdown drills. This play has backscreens, and double stagger screens.These are difficult actions to defend when ran correctly. This gives coaches a time to break down these actions in practice. See More

Lithuania ran this play today versus Croatia in Semi-Final action of the 2013 Eurobasket Champsionship. Lithuania ran some phenomenal actions all game but this was one of my favorites. Even though this play seemed to breakdown the players kept running the action to end in the pick & roll. See More

Bill Self ran this SLOB play for Ben McLemore last year with the Kansas Jayhawks. When teams blanketed McLemore on the perimeter, this was a good option for him to slip to the rim while the weak side help is drawn away by a downscreen. McLemore (2) is the inbounder on this play. See More

UCONN Women's Basketball Coach Geno Auriemma uses this play on occasion to free up a shooter and a post for good looks at a shot. While the PG isolates and dribbles on the wing there is a lot of misdirection action in traffic near the paint. I like to think of this play a little bit like an off-centered Triple Screen that leads into a post cross screen. See More

I figured with so many people doing one set and one drawing, I wanted to offer something different. After reviewing all four games of the Western Conference Finals between the Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs I looked at actions that were successful and one's that didn't have quite as much success. I started with the Memphis Grizzlies. The play diagrams below are drawn for multiple plays with the play name titled directly on top of the court frame. This is the last counter in a series that the Dallas Mavericks used against the Miami Heat in their title run in 2011. Rick Carlisle does an excellent job of recognizing the strengths of the players that he has on the floor and taking advantage of those strengths. In this play sequence Jason Kidd is the (1), JET Jason Terry is the (2), Shawn Marion is the (3), Dirk is the (4), and Tyson Chandler is the (5). This set is a great example of getting your best scorers. Dirk (4) and Jason Terry (2) in position to do some damage. See More
