Basketball Play - USA Chin Lob

USA Chin Lob

Justin Scanson 08/14/2016

Coach K and Team USA ran this set at the beginning of the second quarter vs France in the 2016 Olympic preliminary round. The key to this set is the quick ball movement and the spacing that 4 needs to get out of the DHO before receiving the backscreen from 5. See More

Basketball Play - Lithuania - Cross Pindown STS

Lithuania - Cross Pindown STS

Matt Wheeler 08/08/2016

Lithuania ran this play in their preliminary round game against Brazil. This play provides multiple scoring options for them in a half court set depending on what the defense gives them. Lithuania has opportunities to get the ball inside to a post player (5) on a cross screen, to the point guard (1) on a flare screen, to a perimeter player (3) for a 3 on a down screen, or to a secondary post player (4) slipping the screen to the basket. Spain - EOG SLOB STS for 3

Matt Wheeler 08/08/2016

Spain ran this play against Croatia down 4 with 17.3 seconds left to get an open look at a 3 for Nikola Mirotic. The screen the screener action with 4 screening for 1 and then 4 immediately receiving a screen from 5 confused the defense and led to a wide open shot. Using this play they were able to cut the lead down to 1 in less than 5 seconds. See More

Basketball Play - Anticipation Drills

Anticipation Drills

Rory Hamilton 08/03/2016

The first set of drills we use to breakdown the defense are our "Anticipation Drills." These drills reinforce proper slides, coverages and playing with bounce and energy. Early in the season, we like to make every player go through each of these anticipation drills. See More

Basketball Play - 5 Guard 7 Shell

5 Guard 7 Shell

Rory Hamilton 08/03/2016

This is the last drill we do as a team to work on our team slides and communication. Defense is obviously at a disadvantage so they must have tremendous bounce, effort, and communication. Drill is live and offense tries to score but penetration can only come from the 4 corners of the floor. Block players are stationary and the elbow offensive player goes elbow to elbow. This is a competitive drill and we keep score of both points and offensive rebounds. By putting the defense at a disadvantage by guarding 7 players, we feel guarding 5 will be much easier. See More

Basketball Play - Chicago Bulls - EOG Post Kickout 3

Chicago Bulls - EOG Post Kickout 3

Matt Wheeler 07/20/2016

Down 3 with 3.6 seconds left in the NBA Summer League championship game, the Chicago Bulls ran this sideline out of bounds play to get Denzel Valentine a clean look at a 3. This play uses the skip pass action that Brad Stevens has used at both Butler and the Boston Celtics in end game situations. The Bulls ran their own variation of the play that started with a decoy cross screen for Valentine instead of the zipper screen that Stevens uses. This action caused the defense to relax, thinking Valentine was covered after defending the initial cross screen successfully. The rescreen for Valentine then freed him up for the game tying shot. Basketball Play - 3 ON 3 SERIES PART TWO

3 ON 3 SERIES PART TWO

Marc Skelton 07/16/2016

The premise of this drill is to mimic quick action in early offense. This will improve your screening, how your guys/girls catch and shoot and read the defense. On the flip side your defense will be able to not let cutters cut without being bumped and improve communication. We play a game to seven. There are three options to this drill outlined below. Drill #1 is a UCLA cut. Drill #2 works on the Ghost Screen and drill #3 has a backdoor option. See More

Basketball Play - SLOB Lob for Spurs

SLOB Lob for Spurs

Mo Dakhil 07/13/2016

The San Antonio Spurs summer league team ran an End of Game (EOG) play to beat the Warriors at the buzzer with a lob to Jonathan Simmons. The play showed how teams could take advantage of defenses that hard hedge (when the screener’s defender steps in the path of player coming off the screen) or switch off ball screens. Kyle Anderson is tasked with inbounding the ball, in the stronger side corner is the Spurs best shooter in DeJounte Murray. His job is not to move from that spot and keep the floor spread. Bryn Forbes is in the weakside corner and it appears as if CJ Williams and Simmons are setting a double staggered for Forbes. As Forbes comes off the first screen, Simmons’ defender jumps out early to hedge on the screen and make it a difficult entry pass to Forbes. As soon as the defender hedges Simmons slips right to the basket without ever setting the screen. Anderson throws the lob but it is a little off target but Simmons uses his athleticism to catch the ball, gather himself and goes straight up to score over the defense. Even if the defense switched in this situation Simmons would have the superior position as he has a direct lane to the basket and there would be no one in between him and the ball. The play above is a great example of a team slipping a screen to take advantage of teams See More
