Basketball Play - Texas A&M - Reverse Double

Texas A&M - Reverse Double

Matt Wheeler 02/14/2017

Texas A&M ran this play multiple times in their game against Florida. The Aggies use false motion to help set up the double screen for a 3 point shot. The ball reversal and cuts from the guards shifts the defense and the pindown for 1 gets the ball back in their point guard's hands. Once 1 has the ball, 3 cuts off of a double screen from 5 & 4. 1 passes to 3 for the shot. See More

Basketball Play - Horns Get

Horns Get

Randy Sherman 02/06/2017

France commonly uses the ball screen as the initial action in their Horns alignments, but it is the second ball screen that is the real catalyst. In “Horns Get” the point guard, French superstar Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs, dribbles off the first ball screen and drags his man to the wing. The screener cuts away wide to the sideline to space as the other lifted big comes over to “get” Parker open with a ball screen on the wing. Parker then has a double gap (shaded area, Frame 3) to attack coming out of the ball screen. The screener rolls to the rim and the wing in the corner runs “back action” to counter his man tagging the roll man. See More

Basketball Play - Horns Wide Go

Horns Wide Go

Randy Sherman 01/25/2017

Horns can force less mobile defenders to guard in space and France exploits this by using “Horns Wide Go.” Action begins with a Parker ball screen and wide pop. Parker executes the throwback pass to the screener Boris Diaw as Rudy Gobert cuts to open gap space. Forced to hedge on Parker, defender is late getting back to Diaw leaving him free to attack in double gap space. See More

Basketball Play - Lady Bruins Back Cut Post Option

Lady Bruins Back Cut Post Option

Dana Beszczynski 01/10/2017

This play was run by Cori Close and her UCLA Lady Bruins on Sunday night in their showdown with the Washington Lady Huskies. The Pac12 features one of the best levels of Women's Basketball and has the premier player in Kelsey Plum from Washington. This play starts with a DHO on the wing (if the PG reads the defense, she can keep the ball and attack the paint to the open side). A wide pin down on the weak side brings the 2 guard to the 3 pt line for a possible early catch & shoot 3 pointer if she's open. The Lady Bruins are a very disciplined team going through their options in this set. The Post at the FT line sets a back screen for a possible back door pass while on the weak side a down screen for the PG yields either a 3 point shot or dump in to the Post. After screening, the screener pops to the wing, receives the throwback pass and the option to post your 3 presents itself. If you're not watching Women's basketball on the West Coast, you should be!! Philadelphia 76ers - EOG SLOB Lob

Matt Wheeler 01/04/2017

The Philadelphia 76ers ran this SLOB play with 1.6 seconds left in a tied game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Simultaneous actions prevented the Timberwolves from helping on the screens leaving 2 open at the rim for a lob. 4 screened for 1 to occupy the weakside defense. 2 curled around 5. x2 followed 2 around the screen not wanting to give up an open jump shot up top. x5 was the only defender left to help and he didn't want leave 5 open for a jump shot. Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavs - Box Double Rip Fade Option

Cleveland Cavs - Box Double Rip Fade Option

Matt Wheeler 12/25/2016

The Cleveland Cavaliers opened the second half with this play designed to get a post up for 4 (Kevin Love). It is a familiar play for the Cavs and the Warriors had it scouted well. Cleveland did a good job of reading the defense and making a great play out of it. After 1 passes to 3, x4 (Draymond Green) cheats the two screens to meet 4 in the post. When 4 sees this happening, he fades to the corner and 5 readjusts his screen. 3 hits 4 for a 3 point shot. See More

Basketball Play - Boston Celtics - Flip Reverse

Boston Celtics - Flip Reverse

Matt Wheeler 12/25/2016

The Boston Celtics ran this play after a timeout during the Christmas Day game against the New York Knicks. 1 passes to 2 on the pindown and follows for the handoff which is the typical action in this play. 5 walks into the post as 2 fakes the handoff and makes the pass to 3. The quick ball reversal 2 to 3 gives the offense a chance to catch the defense off guard for a post up or a drive on the weak side of the floor. See More

Basketball Play - Butler End of Game BOB

Butler End of Game BOB

Dana Beszczynski 12/21/2016

This was the late game BOB play Coach Holtman used to guide Butler to what many perceived as an upset of the Indiana Hoosiers last Saturday night. But, the Bulldogs are no stranger to knocking off big time programs. This perfectly designed BOB situation uses the decoy screen for the 5 man who comes across the lane clearing the defense out and the 4 man uses good timing to move towards 3 before slipping hard catching the Indiana defender looking at the 3 man. 1 makes the perfect pass for the dunk in the lane and a big play for the Butler Bulldogs in their knocking off the Indiana Hoosiers! Basketball Play - Stack

Stack

Justin Scanson 12/15/2016

This zone offense quick hitter is designed to create a quick overload situation putting the defense in a difficult position. It is hard for most zone defenses to have the bottom defender guard the opposite corner. This play requires that they do exactly that, otherwise give up an open 3 or 1 on 1postup on the block. Basketball Play - Double Stagger Iso Gate Action

Double Stagger Iso Gate Action

Dana Beszczynski 12/04/2016

This is a BLOB play run by Lokomotiv Kuban from the 1st Half of their VTB League game against reigning Euroleague Champions CSKA Moscow. The curl action off the initial back screen sets up the next movement with the inbounder coming off a double stagger and curling to the weak side looking for a pass. As the inbounder is clearing the the double stagger, 5 & 4 move to set a "gate screen" for the 2 man coming through looking for the 3 pt shot. This is a bang-bang action forcing the defense to choose what to guard. When 3 receives the ball, he has isolation, looking to attack the defender or 2 has an open shot off the gate screen. Sasa Obradovic recently took over at Lokomotiv after having began the season in Greece on the bench of PAO. He is quickly turning Loko back into the team it was last season when it reached the Euroleague Final 4. See More
