Spartan Zone Options

Here are two zone options against a 2-3 zone from Tom Izzo and his Michigan State Spartans. The play starts with a dribble entry to the right wing pushing 2 into the lane. 2 stops at the rim as 5 screens the middle defender in the zone. 2 then curls around the screen looking to get the ball in the middle of the zone. On the weak side, 4 screens for the low defender on the left side to free up 3 cutting up to the wing. Once 2 gets the ball, the bottom left zone defender has to make a decision on who to guard. If he guards 3 on the wing, 2 passes to 4 for lay-up (Option 1). If the defender takes 4 in the post, 2 passes to 3 for a shot (Option 2). See More

Duke Thru DHO Shot

Duke used this play in the first half against Utah. The play starts with Cook dribbling towards the right wing pushing 2 towards the free-throw line. Cook's first look is inside to Okafor posting up. If he isnt' open, Cook looks at 4 popping out after the screen. 4 then dribbles left and gives the ball to Winslow on a dribble hand-off. Winslow stops behind the hand-off and takes the 3-point shot. Kentucky 1-4 High Zipper

Here is a 1-4 high zipper ball-screen play from Kentucky. The play begins with a dribble entry to the right wing pushing the ball-side guard down to the block to make a zipper cut off of 4. Once 2 has the ball, 5 sets a ball-screen. 2 attacks from right to left as 5 rolls to the basket and 4 replaces 5. 2 also has the option to pass to 3 in the corner if 3's defender helps on dribble penetration. Shocker ATO Horns FLEX

They "screen their way into" a horns set, set a backscreen for the point guard who screens for 3 in Flex action. 5 got it in to 3 to put the Shockers up by four with 40 seconds remaining. See More

Kansas Zone Lob

Kansas ran this play in the second half against New Mexico State. The play uses a dribble entry from Mason (1) from left to right. The dribble pushes Oubre (3) to the corner and sends Seldon (2) into the lane and back out to the perimeter. Mason passes to Seldon shifting the defense towards the ball. Oubre sneaks in behind the defense as 4 and 5 screen the bottom zone defenders. In the game, Seldon made the lob pass to Oubre with Oubre missing the dunk, but a good idea by Bill Self. See More

CSU 5 Man Iso & USF Side Elevator (2 plays)

Tied at 59-59 with under two minutes to go in a Non-Conference game between Cleveland State/San Francsico. The first diagram & Video is the CSU 5 Man Iso. #15 Anton Grady is their cornerstone player and in a big situation they love to clear out the side and let him either score or distribute. In this clip he kicks it out to the corner for a huge 3. San Francsico then took the ball out and pushed it up the floor right into a side elevator screen for #32 Derksen who is their best scoring wing. Their action was so successful because of how smoothly they got into it and executed after giving up a big 3. See More

Detroit's Wing Iso

A play 100% designed to isolate your more athletic or stronger 4 man on the side of the floor. Detroit utilizes #2 Juwan Howard Jr. in multiple ways but he's at his best when he can play 1 on 1 basketball. Detroit isn't a team that runs a ton of offense but they push it hard in transition and attempt to create mis-matches thru blowing the ball up the floor. After transition their best offense is finding different ways to isolate players on the floor, in this case #2 Howard. He gets the switch in the ball screen and then all of the help on the back side is guards. With his strength & quickness he can power it up over smaller defenders. See More
