This is a great set utilizing components of Coach Beilein's two-guard offense. The down screen from 1 to 2 has multiple options: 2 could reject the screen, use and send 1 backdoor, or the way it's run here with 2 tight curling and 1 popping back out. Check out the video below. This is a great set from Gonzaga Coach Mark Few. It appears that 5 is sprinting into a ball screen, but actualy will recieve the pass and look to hit the guard cutting backdoor. If 5 is overplayed, this is a great backdoor opportunity for him as well. If the backdoor cut is not there, then everyone holds and 5 has a double gap to drive his man from the top of the key. I love this action that Virginia ran some in their first exhbition. Obviously they are traditionaly a blocker mover team (BEAUTIFUL to watch them by the way), but this is a twist on the classic European ball screen continuity offense. In the normal ball screen continuity, the loaded wing would backdoor cut through and the ball screen would be executed with the guard lifting out of the corner. In this wrinkle, the Cavaliers set the side ball screen on the top player and let the corner shake action play out. This is one of my favorite actions, and one of the hardest to guard. Another benefit is as the ball is reversed, the opposite guard now has an empty side of the floor to reject his ball screen - as you in the clip below. This set isnt run smoothly in the clip attached but again, you can see the action setup. The backdoor cut to finish the set isnt run very intentionally here but I think is a great counter with all of the fixation on the shooter coming off of the stagger and the help being occupied with that. The following reads are made in both the primary and secondary break. They can be the building blocks of an entire offensive system while developing the IQ and skill sets of your players. Circle: Corner player cuts to the rim as the wing player fades towards the corner for a shot. Drop: Wing player dives to the rim as the corner player lifts up to the wing for a shot. Down: Wing down screen towrads the corner where that player may fill up to the rim for a shot as well as curl or backdoor cut to the rim. The screener will either slip to the rim or pop out to the perimeter. Up: Corner lifts up to flare screen for the wing before slipping to the basket. The cutter may also curl to the rim. If the flare screener does not slip to the basket, they may sprint to the ball for a dribble handoff. See More

The Cavs needed to some open shots for their supporting cast in game 3 against the Boston Celtics. They used this play to get Kyle Korver (2) one of his four three-pointers on the night. As 3 dribbles at 4, 4 goes backdoor and 1 clears to the opposite wing. This puts 2 in a position to cut off a stagger screen from 4 and 5 for the shot.
