Basketball Play - TCU - Weak Stagger

TCU - Weak Stagger

Matt Wheeler 01/16/2018

TCU runs this early offense play to get 3 open for shot after running his defender through multiple screens. 1 starts the play with a pass to 3 on the wing. As the ball is swung to the other side of the floor, 3 cuts off of a back screen from 5. They use this decoy action as a misdirection. Once the ball is on the right side of the floor, 3 turns around to cut back off of a stagger screen from 5 and 4. If 3 isn't open, 1 cuts to the top to get the ball reversal. 3 can then run the baseline off a screen from 5 to get a shot on the other side of the floor. Basketball Play - Toronto Raptors - SLOB Slice Punch Stagger

Toronto Raptors - SLOB Slice Punch Stagger

Cooper Smither 12/26/2017

During Dwane Casey's tenure with the Toronto Raptors, the team has routinely run this Sideline out of Bounds play, but have also added depth to it over the years. Additionally, this set is pervasive throughout the entire NBA and is also utilized by teams such as the LA Lakers. While the first option is to post up the inbounder after using a slice cut on the weak side block, the second option quickly morphs into a series of staggered screens that can open up space for perimeter shooters and induce hard close outs. Basketball Play - Spead Series - Floppy

Spead Series - Floppy

Diccon Lloyd-Smeath 11/08/2017

Iberostar Tenerife Coach Txus Vidoretta runs a creative use of 5 Out, Lithuania Break to enter Floppy. With every action in the Spread Series, if there is no advantage, it flows straight into a Spread Ball Screen. In this case, running the full action means the defender on the screen is late to hedge and the on-ball defender cheats under - leading to an instant re-screen and a dunk for the roll man. See More

Basketball Play - Stagger Split Action

Stagger Split Action

Matt Wheeler 10/23/2017

In the stagger split action, the player positions do not matter as much as putting the player with the right skills set in those positions. 1 must be a shooter or playmaker. He will most likely get the ball to create a shot for himself or others. 2 needs to be a good passer. He has to make the read and deliver the ball to the correct person. 3 has to be an offensive threat, which forces the defense to have to provide help as he cuts to the basket. 4 is where you want your best screener to be. He has to get 1 open on the down screen. 5 needs to be put in a position where he creates good spacing for your team. FMS Blog: Stagger Split Action Breakdown See More

Utah Jazz - PNP Stagger Split

Matt Wheeler 10/23/2017

The Utah Jazz ran this play to get Gordon Hayward the ball off a down screen where he can create a shot for himself or his teammates. The play starts with a pick and pop with 1 and 4. This gives the Jazz good spacing and gets the ball in a position where 4 can make the pass off of the stagger split action. 5 & 2 set a stagger screen for 3 on the weak side. 3 splits the screen by curling around 2 and cutting to the basket. 2 then cuts off the screen from 5 to receive the pass from 4.
