Favorite Send to FastDrawBaseline out of bounds play ran by the CT in their 66-62 loss to the Mystics 6/7/13. The play starts off with a familiar box set action. Often when 4 passes to 1, 4 would screen the screener. The Sun flipped the down screeners, having a big screen a little into the lane. Usually a little will screen a big into the lane. This change allowed 2 to run the baseline coming off of 4 and 5's screens. Having the bigs screen the guard on the baseline should prevent a switch. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawElbow set run by the Heat in their game 5 win over the Pacers. Having a great shooter setting and running off screens forces the defense to provide a lot of help on the screens and be very active. Rolling James down the lane put a lot of pressure on the defense and it had to pull in leaving Haslem for the open jumper. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawMiami opened the 3rd quarter of their game 5 win over the Pacers with this elbow set. Utilizing down screens, hand offs, and ball screens Miami was able to open up driving lanes. The Pacers won the 1st and 4th quarter and tied the 2nd quarter but lost the 3rd quarter by 17 points. The Heat player movement, ball movement, shot making and offensive execution was excellent in this 30 point 3rd quarter. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawHere is a set play that was run often by the Pitt Panthers over the course of this last college basketball season. This play starts off with a basic flex action and then develops into a back screen for a lob opportunity and then finishes with a screen the screener action to get an open three. This play is great because the ball is changing sides of the floor, you have action going to the basket and away from the basket, and also flows right out of transition. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawHere is the best stuff from the San Antonio Spurs in their 4-0 series sweep over the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference Finals. There are quite a few plays as I wanted to be able to give you the Spurs playbook of their most successful actions and offensive sets. To best enjoy and learn from these play diagrams I recommend that you watch the video which is linked below as all of the diagrams are listed in order with the video clips. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawAs Kyle Gilreath posted the Pacers have been running a lot of zippers into ball screens. This is another look at how Indiana ran zippers and ball screens in game 5. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Pacers ran this play in the 3rd quarter of their game 5 loss to the Heat. Because George is a enough of a threat to shoot the 3 and can drive Hibberts man has to stay with George coming off the screen. Hibbert then rolls down the middle of the lane to recieve a pass from West who replaced him. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThere is no better way to end the week than with one last zipper action from the Indiana Pacers. They ran this play versus the Miami Heat in Game 5 of the ECF. The Pacers have had much success in pick & roll situations finding Hibbert on the role for points in the paint. This is an excellent way to set up a pick & roll for Hibbert. By placing a shooter (3) in the corner it makes helping on the roll of 5 harder because if the defense sags in a talented point guard will throw back to 3 for a shot. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawTrying to head into halftime with much needed momentum in Game 5 of the ECF versus the Miami Heat, Pacers' head coach Frank Vogel drew up this action that worked flawlessly. Unfortunately, David West missed the point blank lay-up. What made this play so successful was that Chris Bosh (guarding West) fell asleep ball watching and didn't see West cut behind his head. Favorite Send to FastDrawOn Wednesday I posted a zipper action the Pacers have been running all year long and throughout the Playoffs. Last night in Game 5 of the ECF versus the Miami Heat, the added this wrinkle to put George Hill into a side pick & roll. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawI figured with so many people doing one set and one drawing, I wanted to offer something different. After reviewing all four games of the Western Conference Finals between the Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs I looked at actions that were successful and one's that didn't have quite as much success. I started with the Memphis Grizzlies. The play diagrams below are drawn for multiple plays with the play name titled directly on top of the court frame. These play diagrams are in order with the video you can find here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hYblZmLbIM&feature=youtu.be This way you can view the video and look at the play diagrams while the video is running. I hope you enjoy looking at the Memphis Grizzlies WCF Playbook. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawPlay shown by Jeff Van Gundy. He got this from Scott Skiles who ran it with the Bulls with Ben Gordan as the 2. Instead of going 1-4 low at the end of quarters the down screen would start at 7 seconds. Depending on the coverage 2 can pull up for a jump shot or drive for a finish at the rim. 2 can drive and kick to 1. 4 and 5 can roll and replace. 5 can pop and 2 can use the throwback pass. 2 can also pass to 4 if 4's defender helps on the drive. Favorite Send to FastDrawThe 2013 NCAA National Champion Louisville Cardinals ran this play a ton throughout their NCAA Tournament run. They utilized #10 Gorgui Dieng's ability to be mobile and make open mid-range jumpers in every single round in the NCAA Tournament. After running a ball screen at the top of the key and throwing the ball back to the 4 man. #3 Peyton Siva would come down in the middle of the lane and set the down screen for #10 Dieng. As this was happening #11 Luke Hancock the Louisville 3 man would move into position to set a baseline screen for #10 Dieng. He now had the option based on the opponent's defense to come off the Gut screen from #3 Siva or the baseline screen set by #11 Hancock. In most cases he came off the gut screen and hit an elbow jumper. See More
