Basketball Play - Kent St. - BLOB 4 Low Stagger Pin

Kent St. - BLOB 4 Low Stagger Pin

Aseem Rastogi 03/18/2017

With 8:32 left in the first half, Kent State ran this BLOB for a quick two against UCLA. The 5 man ended up screening his own man as well as 1's man, and it led to a poor closeout and an eventual putback off a missed pull-up by 1. There are multiple post options as well, with 4 sealing after the initial screen and a postup after the second of the staggered screens from 5. See More

Basketball Play - UCLA - Early Pindown PNR Slip

UCLA - Early Pindown PNR Slip

Aseem Rastogi 03/18/2017

At 17:40 in the second half, UCLA ran this quick hitter to get a look for their skilled big man Walsh off a touch from Lonzo Ball. The action starts with a pindown and a clearout by the 4 player straight into a middle ball screen from Walsh. KSU hedged the ball screen at the top and Walsh wisely slipped. Put x4 in a 2 on 1 situation when 4 cut back across the baseline to be available for 5. See More

Basketball Play - UCLA - STS Flare PNR Short Roll

UCLA - STS Flare PNR Short Roll

Aseem Rastogi 03/18/2017

With 3:25 left in the game v. Kent State, UCLA ran this quick hitter to get Bryce Alford (2) a good look at a three, as well as a short roll for their skilled big man Welsh (5). UCLA uses Alford as the initial ball screener, freeing him up to come off a flare screen in a screen the screener action for a quick look at the rim. The 5 will end the play with a turnaround ball screen and short roll for a jumper. See More

Basketball Play - Northwestern Early Offense

Northwestern Early Offense

Dana Beszczynski 03/18/2017

What makes Chris Collins Offensive schemes at Northwestern are the multiple screening & cutting actions in each series. The sets are designed to get action off the ball keeping the Defense occupied, forcing decisions in rotations which if to late, result in open shots. This set has all those options included and is one of the best sets I've seen thus far in the NCAA Tournament. See More

Basketball Play - West Virginia - SPNP Action

West Virginia - SPNP Action

Dana Beszczynski 03/18/2017

West Virigina likes to run this action throughout the game especially with the luxury of having Adrian a true "stretch" 4 in the game. Carter (PG) has the option of either taking the UCLA screen or stepping back for a shot or drive. 2 (SG) Miles Jr. can then curl off the step out screen from Adrian and has the option to immediately come back and screen-the-screener (option in this set as well). The exchange on the baseline makes the defense turn their heads to guard and with Ahmad (SF) a strong presence also on the block, Coach Bob Huggins set play gets a lot out of their personnel. Basketball Play - UCLA Floppy Canada

UCLA Floppy Canada

Adam Spinella 03/21/2017

For all the shooters UCLA has, their big men are underappreciated for how good they are in the mid-range. This action allows them to take advantage of their mid-range shooting prowess by driving a guard on the baseline, then hitting a big man for the pick-and-pop. See More

Basketball Play - Iverson UCLA Snap

Iverson UCLA Snap

Doug Brotherton 04/03/2017

Way too often, teams have put the ball into a player's hands, and asked him to be a hero. There is no action being run, and the player dribbles into a contested shot. The goal of this is to give coaches some other actions that they can use to generate a quality shot. See More

Basketball Play - HoopGrind Basketball - "Elbow Chase"

HoopGrind Basketball - "Elbow Chase"

Doug Brotherton 04/07/2017

This box set incorporates our "ELBOW" action. The Elbow action starts in a box set, with guards splitting to the wings. Post lift up the lane line. What I like about this play is the versatility. It can be used to generate an open 3, a post iso, or a high/low look. It can also be used effectively against man-to-man or zone defense, by simply teaching 4 to set the cross screen on the middle of the zone. Basketball Play - Spurs 31 Hawk

Spurs 31 Hawk

Adam Spinella 04/16/2017

A staple of the Popovich playbook, the Hawk action is code for a side ballscreen occuring at the same time as a double stagger on the opposite side. It's a ballscreen that occupies help. In recent years the Spurs have run it with Kawhi Leonard as the ball screener, hoping he can pick-and-pop and isolate off of it. See More
